Presidents Report Christmas is a time for family, friends, good times and scale modelling (not necessarily in that order). Many people see January as a time to make resolutions for the New Year. I will be starting on a kit I have been staring at for the best part of 6 years. A new year – a new kit. Hopefully it will be finished within 6 years! Why not do the same –resolve to finish some shelf queens, or start that elusive kit that was purchased with stars in your eyes and got put to the back of the pile because it was “too complicated” – or “I will just wait for that extra bit of aftermarket”. Try a new technique – and share your experiences with your club mates – which is what we are all here for. I hope Santa brings you something nice for your stocking! Now go and build something!

From the Editor

Welcome all to the 4Q16 newsletter. Done and dusted for 2016, wow what a great year for modelling. This month will

be dedicated to a wrap-up of our significant annual event, ScaleAct.

It must be said that Scale ACT 16 was without a doubt our biggest and best event to date! There are many members

that helped make this event work as well as it did. Firstly, there is MR Michael Grieve or as we refer to him MR Scale

ACT. Each year Michael oversees a large percentage of what most take for granted and, yes folks Michael does his

lion’s share, plus some, to ensure this event runs smoothly. Every club needs at least a couple of passionate

members like Michael Grieve to drive it down the right road. Well done mate!!!

To all of our members that turned up on Friday afternoon and again at the close of the show on Sunday to help out, a

big thank you to all. Without your support the setup and pulldown could not happen.

A special mention must also go to our database team Jerry Cashman and Phil Keene, Swap and Sell team, Len

Partridge and Tony Allocca and the star of the competition Chief Judge Brad Fallen.

I would like to single out of couple of people that put in a huge effort over the weekend. It turns out to be our first

husband and wife team and they only joined the society a few months before Scale ACT. Many thanks to Greg and

Elaine Jones for their outstanding efforts; you quilters are always welcome back.

All in all I had a great time at Scale ACT 16; spent a little bit of money, saw some of the finest models in the country,

met some great people and lastly, enjoyed my hobby with like-minded modellers.

Scale ACT 16 Wrap Up

Scale ACT 16 proved to be a show that broke many records:

* 437 models entered in the competition (previous highest was 372 last year)

* 100 separate entrants (previous highest was 96 in 2015)

* 48 entries from our Junior and ‘Young Gun’ entrants

Very many thanks to all who took the time to help in the lead up to and during the show

weekend, your efforts were much appreciated!

Aside from a relatively few running improvements that shouldn’t be too difficult to implement,

the following are, I feel, the major areas that we need to address for Scale ACT in the future:

* Continue building themed displays to increase the number of models on show (eg. a “75th

Anniversary of 1942” display is already in planning for Scale ACT 17)

* Improve show publicity (we seem to be quite successful at reaching out to modellers, but

must do better to attract the general public to the show)

* Improve the club build table

* Introduce a larger program of workshops and presentations throughout the show weekend

(David Hay’s figure painting workshops were very well received this year)

All of the above will require the efforts of the membership as a whole - the committee alone

will be unable to take on it all.

Thanks to all who took the time to respond to our request for feedback, everything raised is

being considered.

Lions Club Display This year we had an excellent turn-out of both club displays and other clubs supporting our show, well done to everyone for helping out. One of the best club displays over the weekend, Thankyou Lion Club, great food and great support as always.

ACTSMS Page 12

ACTSMS build Table This year Tony Martin had a range of models to give away to the kids. Boy that went down like a treat. Fancy going to a model club display and coming home with a model to build; excellent idea Tony. If the club had a good looking roosters competition, you guys are in the finals.

CMSS Display In reflection Bob, that was a great club display, I hope you guys had a fun weekend.

ACTSMS Page 13

100 Years of Boeing Display Many thanks to Ray Seppala for pulling together the ‘100 years of Boeing’ display at the last minute. This was a big success.

75th Anniversary of 1941 Another great ACTSMS club display. I love a good theme.

ACTSMS Page 14

Panzergruppe South Display Tanks fellas, great display as always.

And wait there’s more (Steve’s Large scale Model display)

Always love the bigger stuff, so life-like.

ACTSMS Page 15

Last but not least SouthCare Helicopter display with Len Bowen. You’re doing us all a big favour Len. Thank you.
