History of the Department
Our department is part of Subhas
Chandra Bose Centenary College,
under the University of Kalyani. It
started functioning since 2002 for UG
three year General course and 2006 for
three years Honours course. Today,
pass and Hon’s courses were
simultaneously carried with modern
laboratory facilities. Our department
organizes seminar lectures, classroom
debates, intra-college geo–quiz, map
drawing contest, field photograph
exhibition etc. It also arranges short
field trips, education excursion and
brings out wall magazine.

With the aid of soil-testing and water-testing facilities within
the Laboratory we teach better to the students.
“The Department has one computer lab to support teaching in Remote Sensing, GIS,
and computer application in geography, and to permit students to pursue practice
those works. Available software includes five licenses of TNTmips, along with open
source GIS software like QGIS 2.8.7.”

A digital Mini Weather Station is also installed in our
department to obtain daily weather data.
The College Library House along with Dept. Library has an
extensive collection of books in support of geography.

Subarna Bandyopadhyay, Assistant Professor of this institute has been
completed a research project under UGC-MRP scheme entitled ;
“Land-use Land-cover change and its impact on food-crop
production in three CD Blocks of Krishnagar sadar sub-division,
Nadia, West Bengal”.
