Once there lived a holyman called Venkoba. There is an in teresting story about him. No one

knows whether it is true or not, but it is fascinating. Once he decided to go on a pilgrimage. He

had killed his wife in a fit of anger and he wanted to do penance to please the Gods and show that

he was really repentant. When he got to the Himalayas he went to a small ashram. He decided to

stand on one leg. He faced the Himalayan peaks and stood there on one leg for ten years

One day he heard a sweet and melodious voice. The person was singing a song which his wife

used to sing soon after her marriage. Venkoba opened his eyes. He couldnot believe what he saw

infront of him.

(c) What is peculiar about his penance?

(d) What made him wake up from his meditation?
