SAYING ‘SEE YOU LATER’ MRS. QUINN! MCS holds a special place in our hearts for the faculty and staff who become like family, we sadly are saying farewell to a dear member this week, our beloved Mrs. Jolene Quinn. She diligently served our junior high students for over 20 years and has left a lasting impact on all our lives for years to come. We took time in Chapel this week to honor her service, reflecting on the many ways Mrs. Quinn faith-fully committed herself to MCS and the students. It was a special time that many of us will never forget, filled with laughter, memories and of course a few tears.

REFRESH: TO REINVIGORATELast Friday, was the 4th Annual High School In-House Retreat, ‘Chi Alpha (XA): Refresh’, where students had a day filled with a refreshing of both their heart and mind. There were six breakout sessions available for the students including guest speakers: Ben Courson, Annie Stone, Linda Self, Pete Denham and Jim Rooney. They took a break mid-day to gather in worship, with Pete Denham leading the student body in a time of reflection and prayer. It was moving to see this next generation join in together with their peers, edifying the Lord.
Of course, it wouldn’t be High School Retreat without a pep rally, where the MCS Drumline started us off strong, getting everyone pumped up for the rally. ASB introduced Varsity Girls & Boys Soccer as well as the Varsity Girls & Boys Basketball. After introductions, it was time for a friendly tournament of bubble soccer, where the Girls Soccer Team came out champions (thanks to a quick play by Mr. Hetherington who may have scored the winning goal). Our cheerleaders sent everyone off to finish the retreat! A special thanks to the faculty, staff and guest speakers who made this retreat happen!

January is ‘Community Helper Month’ and all 3 and 4 year old classes had a visit with a local dental hygienist. The students looked on in curi-osity as she demonstrated proper dental hygiene techniques. They also learned the importance of brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist. A great presentation for preschool as they build their skills in these formative years!
We want to congratulate our elementary students who received special recognition during Chapel for their Fruit of the Spirit certificates. For the month of January, the students were encouraged to practice kindness among their peers and family. “You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in your provi-dence watched over my spirit.” -Job 10:12. Next month’s Fruit of the Spirit is ‘Goodness’!

Our Junior High Girls took on Francis Parker this week, working for an early lead in the game with great hits by all. And with a notable season win against Santa Fe Christian last week, they end the season with a 6-3 record overall. Great job Junior High Ladies!

Africa Mission Trip 2019 -- Maranatha will be partnering with Far Reaching Ministries once again for a life changing two-week mission trip to Africa this Summer, June 22 – July 6. Led by Shawn and Annie Stone, the team will take part in a Love Covers children’s outreach, along with various men & women events. An info meeting will be held on Sunday, February 10 after 2nd service in C-210. Email [email protected] for more info.
HOPE IN THE STREETS — Our next Hope in the Streets event will be an outreach to families in need in Escondido on Saturday, February 16, 2019. The event will be held at Palmilla Apartments located at 776 E. Mission Avenue, Escondido, CA, 92025. We could use help on Friday, February 15, 2019, 5pm – 7pm in the Fellowship Hall. We will be sorting clothing and packing groceries in preparation for the outreach.
