Saxen Van Coller- Photographing The Wild Cats Photographing the big cats has always been my favorite thing. I always enjoy capturing the mountain lions, bobcat, and the lynx being the most common. From trekking in the Himalayas in search of the rare snow leopard to stalking the elusive jaguar through Latin American Jungles I have done it all. While these felines are endangered they are still wild and dangerous. If you want to capture these wild animals then it is important that you learn all about their habitats and behavior and be prepared for any unexpected situation.

CatsPhotographing the big cats has

always been my favorite thing.

When we talk about mountain lions, they are not like bears because they can stalk you and hunt you for food. These are very dangerous animals and require advance planning and extra precautions. Saxen Van Coller suggest that when in the wild, it’s better to talk to the locals, guides, and the rangers as they know all about the mountains and the mountain lions. They can help you with the plan and help you set a workplace where you can wait in patience to take photographs of the wild.

The Fast And Furious Cheetah

Another species of the big five animals are the Cheetahs. These are the animals that people enjoy seeing when they are out on a safari. While these are attractive and exciting to watch, they are also extremely dangerous. If you know this animal well then you also need to know that you need a camera with a telephoto zoom lens. Using a Nikon D3S with Nikon 600mm lens plus 1.7x tele-converter you can capture this untamed well. Saxen Van Coller uses the above to capture the cheetahs with various apertures as they are very rare to track.

The Elusive Cat The Leopard

Like the Cheetah the leopard is also an elusive cat. They are least active during the day so sighting them during the day is a rare sight. While cheetah most often drink early in the morning so this is the best time when you can capture their photo using a Nikon D3S Nikon 600mm lens on tripod, f/4@1/1000 sec. Cheetahs hunt on the open plains because of their speed they need uncluttered spaces, for a photographer this is great as you can get a nice clear photo of a full on sprint. For most ordinary people waiting for hours in the summer sun can be a torture as an when the end results come they are worth the wait.
