• Talk to your partner and retell what has happened in the story up to this point.
• Next, read over your predictions that you recorded yesterday in your journal.
• Can you think of a good question, to ask at this point in the story?
• Let’s see what I predicted yesterday.
• Sometimes our predictions happen and sometimes they don’t.
• When they happen the way we predict we call that being confirmed.
• When they don’t happen we call that disproved.

Was it confirmed or disproved?
• I am going to read Chapter 5 aloud. I willfollow the steps of prediction on my Predicting Strategy Card. I will
stop after each page to ask myself what will happen next, and then make a prediction. I will also make a final prediction at the end of the chapter and write it down. Let’s listen to pages 14and 15.

• Dark clouds are forming. That usually means it’s going to rain. I predict there will be a storm.

• What words did your group clarify?
At the end of the passage I read today, I predicted that a tornado would strike. After reading on to see what happened next, that’s exactly what happened. A tornado did strike. Luckily, Prairie made it through the tornado. This prediction was confirmed, so I’ll put “confirmed” on my chart.
Were any of your predictions confirmed?
Can you give me a new prediction for today’s passage?
Do you think Prairie acted well during the tornado? How do you think you would have acted?
