Advent and St. John the Baptist: every year on the second Sunday of Advent the Church pre-sents the figure of St. John the Baptist, so that we may hear his voice and message and put it into action what he exhorts us. St. John is the one chosen by God from all eternity to get his people ready to receive His Son, was walking toward the Jordan River to inaugurate his public ministry. Advent literally means ‘coming toward’ and in it we ourselves are called to prepare for God’s coming toward us. St. John says “I am the voice of One crying out in the desert.” he did not say, “I am one crying out in the desert,” but rather “I am the VOICE of one crying out in the desert.” John is the voice, the spokesperson; who is the “one crying out?” it’s the Word, Christ Jesus. John’s message is God’s message and that message is urgent and clear: “Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.” What john is calling us to is conversion. To preach conversion is the mission of John the Baptist, which is why we encounter him every Advent, because in Advent this message must be preached and conversion must be prac-ticed. The reason is because Jesus has come into the world to save us from our sins and from what our sins lead to, death. In order to appreciate our Savior and what He did for us, we have to realize that we are sinners who need Him to save us from our sins. That’s why John the Baptist’s message is such a gift. Immaculate Conception: remember the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception will be on Thursday, December 8th. So that you may fulfill the day of obligation, there will be Masses at 5:15 pm on Wednesday, December 7th. 7 am; 12:05 noon and 5:15 pm on Thursday, December 8th. On this solemnity we celebrate the dogma that the Blessed Virgin Mary, though conceived and born as all of us are, was preserved free from all sin, from the moment of her con-ception, that she “might be a worthy Mother for God’s Son, an image of the Church, the Bride of Christ, and a model of holiness” for all His people. The Virgin Mary, under this title of the Immaculate Conception, is Patroness of the United States and all the Americas. Sharing your gift: sharing your gift of talent is a particular valuable gift given to us by the Lord. Remember the parable of the talents (Mt 25: 14-30), the sin of the poor servant who buried his master’s talent in the ground was that he did not trust his own abilities, nor did he trust in the wisdom of his master. He thought the master had made a mis-take in entrusting him with that talents, and thus the master was enraged. God is very generous in bestowing talents upon us. Each person is blessed with a unique set of talents that are incredible valuable. God gives us the talents we need in order to succeed in school and in our work. God give us the talents we need in order to be good spouses and parents. God gives us these talents for a reason: so that we might use them wisely and share them generously, all for the glory of His name. Welcome new families: this Sunday at 9:30 am Mass we will welcome some families who joined our parish family during the past few months. May these families find peace and joy as they worship with us in this beautiful church. Blessings to everyone.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
