Saving Energy
Our aim is to show how schools can save energy.
The keys to saving energy are: reduce, reuse and recycle
What is reducing?
• Did you know that every person uses 4.6 pounds of waste per day?!
• 4.6 p is almost double the amount used 35 years ago.We need to reduce waste!
• To us reducing, means to reduce products and materials we use.
• We can reduce what we use by only buying things that we need, not things that are going to go to waste.
Reducing in our school
• At wet play we use scrap paper. Now both sides of the paper have been used.
• When we leave our classroom we turn the lights off. If it’s bright we don’t turn on the lights. This helps reduce energy.
Reuse
• Reusing means less waste is produced.
• How can you reuse?
• Reusing is simple
• Just be creative and think of new ways to use old things. For example, use film canisters as glue pots!
What we can do to reuse?
• After we use paper we put it in a scrap paper tray. We have one in every class.
• We also have a tray next to the photocopier so we can reuse it.
REUSING!
Recycle.
• What can I recycle?• You can recycle things
like paper metals cloth and glass.
• Where can you recycle?
• Find a recycling bin in your area.
• How does recycling work?
• First gather everything we don’t need.
• Sort them out into piles and take them to a recycling bin ready to recycle.
Recycling in school.
• Put paper in the recycling bin.
• Pick a monitor to put the paper in the school recycling bin.
• One person in year 6 will put the paper from our school recycling bin in the public bin.

Can you help us?
• These are the things which we do to save energy in our school.
• When we do these things we are helping our school and the whole world.
• We can help more people if you Reduce Reuse and Recycle too.
