SAVE A SAMPLE! STUDENT HAND-‐DRAWING COMPETITION APPLICATION SpecSimple.com’s Save A Sample! -‐ an annual industry recycling event supported by local chapters of the AIA, ASID, IIDA, SMPS and USGBC-‐ creates a second life for unused brochures, fabrics and finish cards from architecture and design firms throughout the country. Each year, busy design firms donate several tons of samples. The materials are delivered to design schools, with the help of local furniture dealers. As a result, talented students have a much richer set of resources to choose from during the year. SpecSimple.com’s Save A Sample! is pleased to announce the Student Hand-‐Drawing Competition. Hand-‐drawing emphasizes a slow, deliberative process of observance, thought, evaluation, and creation that -‐ when fused with an unprecedented level of skill elevates simple drawing into art. Save A Sample! looks to celebrate this art form and encourages exceptional examples of student hand drawings with our annual Student Hand-‐Drawing Competition. Save A Sample! Awards one Grand Prize scholarship of $1,000, as well as first prize City scholarships of $250 per event location. One prize will be awarded per event location. The school attended by our Grand Prize winner will also receive $500. In order for students to be eligible for a Save A Sample! Scholarship, they must be currently enrolled as a design student at a participating Save A Sample! School. Each school can submit a maximum of two entries. Please see the Save A Sample! Student Hand-‐Drawing Competition application for submission requirements and entry deadlines. Have a question? Please contact our Coordinator Donna Heaney. Please do not put your name or school on the front of your boards.
Student name, contact information and school should be attached to the back of the drawings using the labels below.
We seek submissions that demonstrate a deliberate process of evaluation and creation. Therefore, the samples do not have to translate literally into your drawing. We are looking for you to evaluate the essence of the sample. What qualities of the sample(s) inspired you? Was it the texture of the material, the way it reflected light, the color, etc? How did these qualities inform the process of your hand-‐drawing?
Drawing Labels:
Please fill out the following label(s) with your name, school, contact number, and email and attach them to the back of your drawing and materials/inspiration boards.
