To commemorate 10 years of SIEW, the SIEW brand identity was refreshed for a more contemporary spin that demonstrates SIEW’s commitment to looking forward, and its readiness to embrace the exciting future of the energy industry.

The new SIEW logo is anchored by the universal “Power” symbol as the letter “E”. This represents SIEW as an “always-on” platform for topical energy discussions. The vibrant exchange of ideas and opinions that is characteristic of SIEW is manifested in the bright and bold colour palette, while the modern typography reflects the progressive and constantly evolving nature of the energy landscape.

This year marked the 10th edition of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW). Over the past decade, we have together navigated the most significant energy issues of our time, sharing best practices and solutions, and facilitating the exchange of ideas. Since 2008, SIEW has brought together more than 127,000 energy players from over 80 countries, to discuss energy issues shaping the industry.

SIEW 2017 was held from 23 to 27 October at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands. Policymakers, heads of international organisations and industry leaders had an exciting week of discussions on the theme Rethinking Energy; Navigating Change, exploring how energy players could stay nimble and seize opportunities in the evolving energy landscape.

Panellists discussed how to rethink energy throughgreater interconnections.

SESSION 1: RETHINKING ENERGY

For the next 20 to 30 years, LNG could be the most optimal solution in balancing energy demand and environmental sustainability as renewables gain more traction, said Yuji Kakimi, President of JERA.

Panellists agreed that natural gas has an important role to play in the energy future, given its reliability in electrification comparedto renewables.

SESSION 2: SLOW ROAD TO RECOVERY?THE OUTLOOK FOR OIL & GAS

Panellists discussed the opportunities and challenges of financing, energy efficiency and digitalisation to integrate renewables into the grid.

The growth of renewable energy is “unstoppable”, said Adnan Amin, Director-General of IRENA.
