10. Order Types

11. Charts

An order is a request that allows Saturn Trader to execute a trade on your behalf should market prices reach your defined level. Orders vary in complexity and, if used properly, are a means to assist you to manage risk.

Primary OrderThis is an opening order to create a new position or to place an order against an open position.

Contingent Stop and LimitBy checking the Stop and/or Limit box you can enable an OCO from your opening primary order.

The stop order will allow you to protect your downside risk. The limit order allows you to take profit from your primary opening order. The attached stop and limit orders will act as contingent OCO. In this case once the primary has been executed the stop and limit will operate as an OCO.

OCO (One Cancels Other)

OCO orders operate as one cancels the other orders, so in the case above, assuming a primary order has been executed only one of the contin-gent orders will execute and the other will be cancelled.

In the case of placing an OCO as an opening or closing order against an existing open position, you must first enter the primary order details and then select the OCO tab next to the Primary tab. You can then enter the other half of the OCO. The primary can be the stop order or limit order and the other half of the OCO will be the other leg of the order. OCO’s can only be placed in one direction.

Where OCO orders are used to open a position, you are able to select either limit and/or stop against the opening legs of your OCO order, by checking the stop or limit boxes in the order ticket.

Charts may be launched from a variety of panels within the platform, by right clicking on the market name or price, you can open charts from:

• Single Price Window• Position Panel• Orders Panel• Market Browser• Trade History• Order History

The right hand corner of the chart displays the markets current Bid and Offer quotes. Dates can be found on the charts horizontal axis and prices on the Vertical Axis.

13. Monitoring your account

14. Managing your positions

The Account Summary window allows real-time monitoring of your account balance. The fields that comprise the Account Summary window are:

A Single Position Account gives you the ability to open simultaneous long and short positions in the same market.

The Open Positions window reflects your real-time outstanding positions and their marked-to-market value. When you place trades, they are shown in the Open Positions window as a net position. Viewing these trades as single positions is explained later in this chapter.

1. Cash Balance This displays the cash balance of your account +/- Day’s realised finance charges.

2. Open P&L This is the Marked-to-Market value of the profit/losses on open positions.

3. Unmatched P&L Accumulated Marked-to-Market P&L for unmatched open positions.

4. Account Valuation This is the aggregate of Cash Balance + Open P&L + Unmatched P&L.

5. Margin Requirement This is the total margin requirement to support your open positions.

6. Trading Resources This shows your funds available for entering into new additional positions. The amount is calculated by Account Valuation minus Margin Requirement.

6. Plus Box Where you have traded on one market a number of times, you can accumulate multiple single positions within that market. With Vodafone in the example on the previous page, the net position is short 7 CFDs, over 7 individual trades. You may close each position individually or simply place a trade to buy 7 Vodafone to net the position off to zero. You may add an order to each single position you hold to close also.

Where you use one trade to close your position, you can match them off, which automatically takes place when you manually close a single position of have an order working against it, please see point 10.

7. PnL Day This displays the real-time unrealised profit/loss of your open trades based on the Initial Price expressed in your account currency.

8. PnL Total The real-time unrealised profit/loss of your open trades based on the average trade price expressed in your account currency.

9. Margin The margin requirement of the position(s) held expressed in your account currency.

10. Match Clicking the Match button will load a list of your single positions in a particular market. This window gives you the ability to match you single positions.

In the example, assuming we bought 7 Vodafone, our net position equates to zero.

By selecting the scales on the collapsed view of the position the matching box will appear.

Match BoxSelect the single positions which you would like to match together. Once the selected single positions are matched, they are considered closed and will not reflect on the Open Position panel. You may choose multiple positions of the same market to be matched. Full and partial matches are both allowed. In this example the buy 7 in the top half has been matched to the sell 7 trades in the bottom half of the window.

Shortcuts exist within certain panels to open others quickly, e.g. from the positions panel you may open the account summary and orders and vice versa.

NB: Where a consolidated account is held the position opening and closing are treated on a FIFO (first in, first out) basis and you will not have the flexibility of managing individual positions through matching and orders useless the open position was opened with a linked order.
