If you dare—and if you’re 44 inches or taller—walk the tightrope high above the ground. is family-friendly exhibition features twenty multi-station interactive exhibits that delve into everything from clown makeup to animal communication. TINKERING STUDIO Follow in the inventive footsteps of omas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and Leonardo da Vinci in the Tinkering Studio! Work together to experiment and collaborate on creative activities designed to spark curiosity and foster exploration. Make origami and Spirograph artwork, design and construct simple mechanical toys from recycled materials, build marble “roller coasters” using tubes and ramps or create “digital bling” using colorful LED lights, baeries and accessories. Join us to dream, design, create, experiment and enjoy! APRIL—Tinkerers’ Club. Join us on Saturday mornings to learn new skills and work on fun projects that you get to take home with you. Advance registration is recommended. $12 members; $15 nonmembers (per project). 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the Tinkering Studio. April 4, 18 & 25. Sponsored by ScholarShare.

April 4: Build a Lamp! Bring your bright ideas and an usual item at home to create your base and design your very own lamp!April 18 & 25: �e Science of Serigraphy. In this two-class workshop Tinkerers will explore the science of serigraphy, also known as screen printing. Tinkerers will use eco-friendly ingredients to make their own printing medium and screen prints. Workshop admission will be sold in a two-class block. Special rates apply: Members $17, nonmembers $20.

APRIL—Family Science Saturdays. Activities free with paid admission. 2–4 p.m. in the Tinkering Studio. April 4, 18 & 25.

April 4: Elephant Toothpaste and Milk Paint. Tinkerers will explore exothermic reactions with “elephant toothpaste”; plus use milk paint to create abstract images.April 18: �ink Green! Using string, recycled paper and other organic materials, Tinkerers will create their very own paper.April 25: Coded Messages. Use household items like baking soda and cranberry juice to make disappearing ink!

APRIL 6—Senior Monday Lecture: Using Human Pluripotent Stem Cells to Study Neurological Diseases. Dr. Cassiano Carromeu will uncover the many advantages of using human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) in medicine. He will discuss the main advances made, the pitfalls to overcome and the potential of revolution on personal medicine using these cells. Following the lecture, catch a special screening of the IMAX �lm Mysteries of Egypt. 10:30 AM lecture; noon theater show; seniors $8, adults $17.95.

APRIL 9—Young Scientists Session 7: Engineering. Preschoolers ages 3–5 (and a parent) learn how to build and think like real engineers through experimentation, investigation and scienti�c questioning. Sessions run monthly, four weeks each. �ursday, Saturday or Sunday morning. 9–10:30 a.m. Members $75, nonmembers $85. Session 7 ends May 3.

APRIL 11—Saturday Science Club for Girls: Structural Engineers. Girls in grades 5–8 can join the Fleet on the second Saturday of each month to investigate exciting science topics. �is month we’ll design and build our own bridges and towers. Noon–2 PM; members $12, nonmembers $14. Must pre-register by calling (619) 238-1233 ext. 806.

FLEET EVENTSAPRIL 14—Teacher Workshop: Spotlight on San Diego Science. A local scientist, engineer or researcher will share their passion for what they do and provide information that will be useful for teachers in the classroom. 5–7 p.m.

APRIL 16—Fleet Night of Science: �e �rill of Science. �e Fleet Night of Science is a delightful evening of unexpected activities and experiences for adults ages 21 and up. Create your own hovercra�, explore the neuroscience that drives adrenaline junkies and learn about the thrilling things the San Diego science community is up to. All exhibits will be open for exploration and food and adult beverages will be available for purchase. �e event takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center.

APRIL 17—Rock In �e Park: Berkley Hart Selis Twang. Eve Selis and Marc Twang join forces with folk circuit mainstays Berkley Hart to create a night full of memorable songs and musical performances. Earnest three-part harmonies take the listener from the easy lilt of West Coast country-rock to bluegrass-styled Appalachia and all toe-tapping points in between. Doors open at 7 p.m.; food available for purchase; beer, wine and cocktails available at the no-host bar. 21+ only; IDs will be checked at the door.

APRIL 18—Nano Day. Delve into the minuscule world of atoms, molecules and nanoscale forces. A range of exciting hands-on activities will demonstrate the special and unexpected properties found at the nanoscale. Activities free with paid admission. Noon–3 p.m.

APRIL 25—DNA Day with the Salk Institute: Mutant Flies. Experience the excitement of scienti�c discovery and participate in fun, educational hands-on activities with scientists from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Noon–3 p.m.

APRIL 25—Public Sleepover Event. Have you ever wanted to have your very own “Night at the Museum” adventure? �is night of fun includes exploration of our “do touch” interactive exhibit galleries, a show on the Giant Dome screen, fun hands-on educational workshops, a scavenger hunt in the science center, music and dancing and more. Asteroids, the Dawn Spacecra� and Arrival at Ceres. �is month, NASA’s Dawn spacecra� is expected to visit and orbit the largest of the asteroids in the inner Solar System, the dwarf planet Ceres. Join us to learn the latest �ndings about these asteroids from this tremendous journey! A professional astronomer leads backyard stargazers through the universe. �e San Diego County Astronomy Association provides free telescope viewing outdoors on the Prado in Balboa Park, weather and operational requirements permi�ing.
