The Washington and Greene CountiesTourism Promotion Agencies invite youto take part in a celebration of their rich

histories and beautiful countrysidesduring the 47th Annual Washington &

Greene Counties Covered Bridge Festival presented by EQT.

Each of the 10 festival locations offera charming atmosphere and an array

of activities including handmade arts and crafts, homestyle foods,historical re-enactments, crafting

demonstrations and delightfulentertainment. Held the third

weekend in September each year, the Covered Bridge Festival is

regarded as the signature event in the area and the official start

to the Fall season.

Activities: The public is invitedto visit this 275-acre outdoormuseum featuring a 19th centuryliving history village with a one-room school, blacksmith shop,church, log houses and the Pine Bank Covered Bridge. This covered bridge,built in 1871, is the oldest surviving bridge in the southwestern corner of PAand was fully rehabilitated this year including repairs made to the timber-framed Kingpost truss. In addition to the 19th century village, also visit themuseum’s recreated 16th century Indian village to see what life was like inWestern PA before European settlement; a recreated 18th century frontiertrading post and Indian cabin; an exhibit about the barns of Western PA; aswell as exhibits of horse-drawn vehicles and equipment, harness racingmemorabilia and historic regional photographs. Do not miss the world-renowned Meadowcroft Rockshelter National Historic Landmark, aprehistoric campsite that dates back 16,000 years (admission ticket required).The museum’s visitor center includes restrooms and a gift shop. A picnic areaand pavilion are also located on the grounds.

Entertainment: Live musical performance will take place throughoutthe day in Meadowcroft’s historic 1870 Fairview Church. Tom Crytzerand Bill Lockard, dressed in period fashions, will perform historical tunesthat date from the American civil war.
