BOUNTY ROOKIE PREVIEWSponsored by Procter & Gamble’s

Bounty Brand of Products-A simplified & revised set of

guidelines has been introduced for the 2020 season, now utilizing race points for the rookie point system. All eligible drivers are now automatically entered into the rookie of the year chase and drivers can claim both the overall series championship & the Bounty Rookie Challenge title should they provisionally win both honors.

-The Bounty Rookie of the Year should be considered a positive example of demeanor, conduct and character, following a code of ethics that best represents the ARCA Menards Series.

The ARCA Menards Series has long attracted aspiring young drivers to the series – some for just a race here or there and some for a run at the Bounty Rookie Challenge. Bounty returned

to the series & expanded their partnership with

ARCA for the 2020 season and will now become

the namesake of the Rookie of the Year award in

the newly-christened ARCA Menards Series East

and ARCA Menards Series West as well.

A new procedure for the 2020 season, only

race points will count towards the Bounty Rookie

Challenge standings now, replacing the previous

tiered system. All rookies will be eligible for

the Bounty Rookie Challenge this season and

drivers no longer have to declare separately for

Rookie of the Year status. Finally, a driver who

wins the overall series championship

as well as the Rookie of the Year can

now claim both titles, a departure from

the restrictions of seasons past.

The Bounty Rookie of the Race at

Bristol Motor Speedway was race win-

ner Sam Mayer, taking his fifth ARCA

Menards Series win of 2020 just hours after

claiming his first career win in the NASCAR Gan-

der RV & Outdoors Series in his seventh series

start. Mayer has won each of the last five short

track races he has entered in the ARCA Menards

Series. In the Bounty Rookie of the Year chase,

Hailie Deegan has begun to put some significant

ground between herself and Drew Dollar, as

Deegan’s lead in the rookie standings has grown

to 28 points.

The 2020 Bounty Rookie

Challenge has been high-

lighted by back-and-forth

action atop the point stand-

ings between Hailie Deegan and Drew Dollar as

the young drivers try to string together consistent

finishes. This has been the case nearly the entire

year – until the last few weeks, that is. Deegan

has finished ahead of Dollar in three consecutive

races and now leads the Bounty Rookie of the

Year standings with 585 points to Dollar’s 557

points, establishing a 28-point margin that is the

largest it has been this season.

Battery issues dogged Dollar at I-44 and left

him in ninth at the finish, six laps down, while

Deegan meanwhile set an ARCA Menards

Series record for most laps led in a single race

by female driver (85) on her way to a fifth-place

finish. At the third Toledo race, Dollar’s afternoon

was done before the crossed flags were even

brought out, ending his day on lap 86 when a tap

from Parker Retzlaff sent Dollar into the track’s

signature styrofoam block barriers in turn 3.

Dollar was credited with 15th and had to watch

from the infield while Deegan completed every

lap in the race, finishing sixth.

With the second-deepest field of the season

set to take on Bristol, any misfor-

tune that Deegan or Dollar would

experience would be magnified

by the potential to lose far more

points than usual. Sure enough, Dollar got into

it on the track with Retzlaff again – this time

reversing the roles as Retzlaff spun into the

wall – and incurred nose damage. Dollar’s race

ended on pit road with the hood up, placing 18th

while Deegan finished sixth. The 28-point lead

held by Deegan is in no way insurmountable, but

Dollar will need some hard charging with a side

of luck to overcome that deficit with only four

races remaining in the 2020 season.

ARCA Menards Series 2020

New Era Continues Rich History of ARCA Menards Series, Adds in ARCA Menards Series East and West

The ARCA Menards Series entered 2020 on the precipice of a new era: The merger of three of the longest running stock car touring series in America.

The stock car sanctioning body, based in Toledo, Ohio, was founded in 1953 by John and Mildred Marcum and was acquired by NASCAR in April of 2018. ARCA has been the launchpad to success for dozens of drivers over the years, including NASCAR Hall of Fame inductees Benny Parsons and Davey Allison to current Cup Series stars Ty Dillon, Chris Buescher, and Ryan Newman to name a few.

The ARCA Menards Series sanctions races all across the country, from Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway, to short tracks such as Indiana’s Salem Speedway and Ohio’s Toledo Speedway.

Beginning in 2020, the ARCA Menards Series also included the two regional tours formerly under the umbrella of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series.

The K&N Pro Series West traces its history to the formation of the Pacific Coast Late Model Series in 1954, while the East dated back to its founding as the NASCAR Busch North Series in 1987.

That history stays in place, although under a new name: the ARCA Menards Series East and West.

The three tours now share a common platform. The unified rulebook allows for teams with

chassis and engines previously eligible in their respective series to compete in any of the three. In addition, the series established fourth champi-onship – the Sioux Chief Showdown – designed to bring the three series together.

The new competition framework is designed to preserve both series’ historic lineage and provide the opportunity for the next fleet of young drivers to go head-to-head with seasoned veterans.

The upcoming Bush’s Beans 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway will be the sixteenth race of the 2020 season and the series’ first at Bristol since 1969, a space of 51 years making it the longest gap between races at a single track in ARCA his-tory. Bret Holmes assumed the points lead after the last race at Toledo, now leading Michael Self by two points with five races remaining. Self won earlier in the season at Daytona and backed it up with another win at Daytona, this time on the road course, while Holmes earned his first career series win at Kansas in July. Sam Mayer, who leads the Sioux Chief Showdown standings and the ARCA Menards Series East standings, won the series’ last race at Toledo Speedway, and swept both ARCA Menards Series East races at Bristol last season.

ARCA Menards Series 2020 at a Glance• There have been seven winners in

the first fifteen races of 2020; Ty Gibbs (Pocono, Kentucky, Iowa, WWT Raceway) and Sam Mayer (Toledo, Toledo, I-44, and Toledo) lead the way with four apiece, Chandler Smith (Phoenix, Lucas Oil) and Michael Self (Daytona and Day-tona Road Course) both with two, Drew Dollar (Talladega), Bret Holmes (Kansas), and Riley Herbst (Michigan).

• Bret Holmes took the series cham-pionship points lead after last weekend’s race at Toledo; he leads Michael Self by two points heading into Thursday night’s race at Bristol and Saturday’s race at Winchester.

• With a win in the last Sioux Chief Showdown race at I-44, Sam Mayer now leads the Showdown standings over Chandler Smith, Ty Gibbs, and Michael Self. Both Smith and Self have led the Showdown standings over the course of the ten-race series-within-a-series’ last three races.

• Frank Kimmel is the most successful driver in ARCA history. The Clarksville, Indiana, driver has a record 10 ARCA championship and is the all-time series leader with 80 career wins.

• The ARCA Menards Series races on superspeedways (tracks longer than one mile), paved short tracks, dirt tracks, and road courses.

• ARCA rules allow drivers as young as 15 to compete at tracks one mile and under and designated road courses; 17 years old to race at Pocono Raceway and Kentucky Speedway; drivers 18 and older are eligible in all races.

• Christian Eckes was the 2019 ARCA Menards Series champion. Past champions also include NASCAR Hall of Famer Benny Parsons as well as current NASCAR national drivers Ty Dillon, Chris Buescher, Grant Enfinger, Chase Briscoe and Sheldon Creed.

• Drivers who have won races in the ARCA Menards and East/West series and gone on to win NASCAR national series races include Dillon, Justin Haley, Chase Elliott, Erik Jones, Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, and Cole Custer.

In a 30-year journey with the ARCA Menards Series that has seen a history of checkered flags and championships, it has been a particularly amazing two-year run for Venturini Motorsports. The organiza-tion won eight times in 2018. Not to be outdone, 2019 saw the organization win 14 of 20 races, win the owner’s champion-ship, and teammates Christian Eckes and Michael Self finish 1-2 in the championship race.

Former series champion Bill Venturini and his wife of 47 years, Cathy, still oversee the team that carries their name, while their son Billy, runs the day-to-day oper-ation of the team that can trace its roots back to the local racing scene around the Chicagoland area in the 1950s.

The 2020 season started off strong for Venturini Motorsports, with Self taking his second Daytona International Speedway win in three years. Chandler Smith, who is

focusing his efforts with the team on the short tracks, won at Phoenix Raceway; and Drew Dollar and teammate Ryan Repko finished first and second, respectively, at Talladega Superspeedway, to give the team a sweep of the first three races of the year.

Smith drove to the win at Lucas Oil Raceway in suburban Indianapolis to give the team its fourth win of the year, and Self stormed to the victory on the road course at Daytona to give the team it’s fifth win of 2020.

After coming tantalizingly close in 2019, Self is driven to close the deal on the series championship in 2020. The 29-year-old from Park City, Utah, won on superspeed-ways and paved and dirt short tracks in 2019, and is also highly regarded for his skills on road courses.

He aims to be a constant threat in 2020.“We came close last season,” Self said.

“We had a great season but so did Chris-tian. We have a lot of competition this sea-son. We have to keep doing what we are doing, stay focused. I am not one to count points. If we do our job throughout the season, we will win races and the points will take care of themselves.”

Self led the standings through the first 14 races of the ARCA Menards Series season but dropped to second following a seventh-place run at Toledo Speedway last Saturday. He now trails Bret Holmes by two points heading into this week’s action, first at Bristol Motor Speedway on Thursday (9:30 pm ET, live, FS1) and then Saturday in the Toyota 200 presented by Crosley Brands at Winchester Speedway (3 pm ET, live, TrackPass; 6 pm ET, same-day delay, MAVTV).

Daughter of X-Games Legend Brian Deegan Looks to Become Series’ First Female Winner

Hailie Deegan has quickly made her share of history in stock car racing.

Already the first female to win a race in the for-mer NASCAR K&N Pro Series, Deegan was also the first female to win rookie-of-the-year honors and established a record with her second-place finish in the West championship in 2019.

At 19 years old, the Temecula, California, driver is looking to make her mark in the ARCA Menards Series.

Deegan, daughter of X-Games freestyle mo-tocross legend Brian Deegan, scored three wins in her two seasons in the West with Bill McAnally Racing. All three wins – at Idaho’s Meridian Speedway in 2018, and at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Colorado National Speedway in 2019 -- came with a pass on the final lap.

“I am going to race them hard for the win,”

Deegan said. “The reason I wait until the last lap is that’s what my coach has told me to do. If it’s on the last lap, they don’t have any time to get back to you.”

The next time Deegan executes a pass for the win, it will be one for the record books.

In its 68-year history, no female has ever driven into victory lane to celebrate a win in an ARCA Menards Series race. Before 2020, only Shawna Robinson and Erin Crocker-Evern-ham came close. Robinson finished second at Daytona in 1999, with Crocker taking a trio of runner-up finishes in 2005 and 2006.

In 2018, Natalie Decker started the season with the General Tire Pole Award at Daytona and raced her way to fifth in the race. She matched that result with another fifth-place finish at Elko, earned nine top-ten finishes and ultimately finished seventh in the final series standings.

The move from the West to the bigger venues of the ARCA Menards Series this year hasn’t been the only transition for Deegan in 2020.

She moved to DGR-Crosley Racing, reuniting the Deegan family with the manufacturer that supported much of her father’s extreme sports success, Ford Performance. The move paid immediate results, as Deegan finished second at Daytona in the season opener, tying the all-time series record for best finish by a female driver held by Robinson and Crocker.

Two races ago, at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in Missouri, Deegan had perhaps the best race of her ARCA Menards Series career. She led 85 laps, the most of anyone, on her way to a fifth-place finish. She was in fourth on the last lap when contact with another driver caused her to spin in turn one, but she recovered without losing any additional positions.

By leading the most laps, she matched a feat that had only been accomplished one other time in ARCA’s 68=year history: the only other female driver to lead the most laps in an ARCA Menards Series race was Shawna Robinson in the season finale at Atlanta in 2000.

Hailie Deegan Continues to Write History in ARCA Menards Series

Bret Holmes Building Speed and a Degree while Chasing 2020 ARCA Menards Series Title

Most college students have their hands full maintaining a full course load. Most business owners, similarly, have a hard time finding time to handle every facet of keeping their company up and running. Very few can be a successful student and have their hand in running a successful company.

Oh, add in chasing an ARCA Menards Series championship.

Enter Auburn University student Bret Holmes.

Holmes is a building sciences major at Auburn, where he is on track to graduate in December. In addition, he works side-by-side with his father, Stacy, in the family’s construction company, Holmes II Excavation. And as he has done since 2018, Holmes is again racing full-time in the ARCA Menards Series.

On the hunt for his first championship, Holmes and his team, led by former driver Shane Huffman, have stepped it up a notch in 2020. Following the return to racing, Holmes reeled off eleven straight top 10s – including five consecutive top-five along with his breakthrough victory at Kansas.

Coming off a runner-up finish at Lebanon I-44 Speedway, which allowed him to close to within one point of series leader Michael Self, Holmes followed with another stand-out short track performance last Saturday night at Toledo. Holmes ran among the top-five all race long, finishing fourth. Combined with a seventh-place finish by Self, Holmes now leads the ARCA Menards Series championship standings for the first time in his career.

“We’ve worked hard all season long to get to this point,” Holmes said. “I am really proud of what we’ve grown into but we have a lot of racing yet to go. We have some more wins we want to go get. We’ve paid our dues to get to this point and it’s really tough to build a team on our own like this. But we’ve gotten that confidence finishing in the top three, top five. It’s given us the realization we can do this.”

Holmes will be looking for his second win of the 2020 season with a pair of races this week, Thursday’s Bush’s Bean 200 at Bristol Motor Speed-way (9:30 pm ET, live, FS1) and Saturday’s Toyota 200 presented by Crosley Brands at Winchester Speedway (3 pm ET, live, TrackPass; 6 pm ET, same-day delay, MAVTV).

ARCA Menards Series Aligns Championship Point Structure with NASCAR National Touring Series for 2020schedule

The ARCA Menards Series has announced a change to its championship points format, aligning the series point structure with those in the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR XFINITY Series, and NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series as well as the ARCA Menards Series East and West, formerly known as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series.

Previously, the ARCA Menards Series used a format that awarded 235 points to a race winner, 220 points for sec-ond, and then a five-point interval per position throughout the field. Five bonus points were available for winning the General Tire Pole via qualifying, for leading a lap, and lead-ing the most laps, meaning a driver could earn a maximum of 250 points per race.

Under the new system, a race winner will earn 43 points plus a three-point bonus for winning the race for a total of 46 points, second would earn 42 points with a one-point per position interval through the remainder of the field. There will be a one-point bonus for winning the General Tire Pole via qualifying, and one-point bonuses for leading a lap and leading the most laps, meaning the maximum a driver could score by sweeping an event is 49 points.

As it has been in the past, ARCA will award teams points for competing in each five-race segment within its 20-race season. In 2020, those segments are scheduled to end at Charlotte, Lucas Oil Raceway, Watkins Glen International, and at the season finale at Kansas Speedway. Any driver

or owner attempting to compete in each of the five races per segment will earn a 50-point bonus, with any driver or owner entering and competing in all twenty races earning the maximum 200 bonus points. The same system will apply, for the first time, in the ARCA Menards Series East and West as well.

“Entering our third year as NASCAR property and now as the sanctioning body for the ARCA Menards Series East and West, we felt it was time to align our points system to fall more in line with the other national series,” said ARCA president Ron Drager. “The one-point-per-position points format has led to some great championship battles since it was implemented, and we are looking forward to seeing how it plays out in the ARCA Menards Series in 2020.”

The battle for the 2020 ARCA Menards Series champi-onship kicks off with the Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire at Daytona International Speedway on February 8. The race will be televised live on FS1 starting at 4:30 pm ET. The ARCA Menards Series East opens its season on Monday, February 10 at New Smyrna Speedway and the ARCA Menards Series West opens with the Star Nursery 150 at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Thursday, February 20. Both of those races will be streamed live on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold, and will be televised on a tape-delayed basis on NBCSN.

NASCAR’s acquisition of ARCA will bring about a structural over-haul to the sport’s foundation and will focus on the develop-mental level of stock car racing – the platform between the highest level of grassroots racer and NASCAR’s top three National Series.

This involves the currently NA-SCAR branded K&N Pro Series

East and K&N Pro Series West, and the tour currently known as the ARCA Menards Series.

A merging and blending of these tours will establish the ground-work for the future of the portal to the highest level of the sport– strengthening the formative plat-form for both aspiring stock car racers and veteran career racers in an exciting, affordable, acces-

sible and energetic package.

The blended package will all be operated under the ARCA ban-ners, and known as the ARCA Menards Series.

Ten Race “Mini-Series” to Showcase the Best of the ARCA Platform

Sioux Chief Manufacturing, one of Ameri-ca’s leading rough plumbing components manufacturers, has signed on become the entitlement sponsor of the ARCA Menards Series Showdown in 2020. Sioux Chief has been the sponsor of ARCA’s former Short Track Challenge since the 2017 season

and has agreed to increase its involvement to support one of the major initiatives of

NASCAR’s acquisition of ARCA.

The newly increased point fund, combined with race purses, owner plan, and con-tingency awards, will now offer racers a

chance to compete for their share of over $920,000 in posted awards throughout the

ten-race series.

“The Sioux Chief Showdown will bring together the best teams from the ARCA Menards Series and the ARCA Menards Series East and West to give racing fans a show they’ve never seen before and we are honored to be a part of it,” said Sioux Chief Manufacturing Company president

Joe N. Ismert. “We have seen a lot of great drivers and great races in the Short Track

Challenge over the past three seasons and we’re excited to see what 2020 will bring.”

Since 2015, Sioux Chief has been involved in the series as a race event sponsor and special awards program sponsor.

The Racing Vendor business-to-business relationship with series entitlement sponsor Menards has not only created memorable moments on the race track, but has put

Sioux Chief products in front of millions of customers in America’s third-largest home

improvement retail chain and created brand awareness among millions of spectators watching at the track and on live national

television.

The Sioux Chief Showdown is a ten-race series within a series that will bring

together the best of the best from the ARCA Menards Series, the ARCA Menards Series

East and ARCA Menards Series West, formerly known as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. Those events, held on oval tracks 1.25-miles in length and under and road

courses, offer drivers who may not be able or eligible to run the full 20-race ARCA

Menards Series schedule the opportunity to run for a championship. Combined with the overall ARCA Menards Series cham-pionship, and the East and West cham-

pionships, drivers will have four separate championships to compete for in 2020.

“We are looking forward to participating in the Sioux Chief Showdown in 2020,” says Max Siegel, owner of Rev Racing. “As we

approach this new series and this new level of competition, we are working hard to make the necessary preparations with our crew and team. We have a really talented

group of drivers on the 2020 roster and look forward to a year of successful finishes.”

The Sioux Chief Showdown will take its first green flag of the season on March 6 at Phoenix Raceway and conclude on Sep-

tember 26 at Memphis International Race-way. In between will be races at Salem

Speedway, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lucas Oil Raceway, Elko Speedway, Iowa Speedway, WWT Raceway, Watkins Glen International, and Bristol Motor Speedway.

The complete Sioux Chief Showdown broadcast schedule, including race start times and broadcast networks, will be

released in the coming weeks.

The announcement took place at the Indiana Convention Center on the final day of the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show, and the site Saturday night’s ARCA

Menards Series Championship Awards Banquet. Ismert was on hand to present

Christian Eckes the 2019 Sioux Chief Short Track Challenge championship trophy. Eckes, also the overall ARCA Menards Series champion, has signed to race in the NASCAR Gander RV and Outdoors

Truck Series with Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2020.
