Hall of Famer Segal bred and owns Authorize in partnership with the Brian Monieson Revtrust. It was the fifth win in 11 tries this season for Authorize and she lowered her mark by more than a second. Another Alagna pacing lass, Ryder Blue Chip (Art Major), scored later in the program with a 1:50.3 in the Leah Almahurst for sophomore pacers. Tim Tetrick was in the bike in as she dropped her mark by two seconds. Trainer Alagna, who has become harness racing's Golden Boy this sea- son, would love to parlay the victories of those fillies into a Saturday win with Captaintreacherous , currently the top-ranked freshman pacer and sec- ond-ranked pacer in the Top 10 Poll. I Luv The Nitelife was bet down to 1-5 by Red Mile racing fans and driver Brian Sears gunned her to the front after the opening quarter was covered in :27 seconds. She shrugged off a challenge around the last turn, but when Dave Palone swung Authorize wide from far back the world champion had nothing to offer. Alagna almost had a trio of filly winners on Friday, but Nikki Beach, another standout owned by Brittany and trained by Alagna, was on the short end of the photo finish earlier in the program. Parlee Beach (Somebeachsomewhere) nipped her after a relentless drive down the middle of the homestretch. The time was 1:51. Parlee Beach left the gate alertly, then yielded to Nikki Beach as they started down the backstretch. Parlee Beach needed every inch of the homestretch to overtake the pace- setter for driver Ron Pierce. The winning filly is owned by Patrick Ryan on Ontario and trained by Bob McIntosh. “I’d be lying to you if I told you Authorize had a better chance today than Nikki Beach,” Alagna said. “But Authorize is a nice filly. Last time out she just and little far back early and couldn’t make up all the ground.” The third split of the Brittany Stallion Management went to Hit The Curb (Art Major) as she was reserved off the frantic early pace set by South Pacific, who timed the gate to sprint away to an easy lead for Dave Palone. The others were strung out behind her, but South Pacific surrendered in the stretch and Hit The Curb came the fastest in drive to the win to edge Novascotia Hanover and Art Ideal in a tight three-filly photo. W Springtime Stable owns Hit The Curb and Mark Harder trains the winner, who was timed in 1:51.2. The third split of the Brittany Stallion Management went

to Hit The Curb (Art Major) as she was reserved off the

frantic early pace set by South Pacific, who timed the gate

to sprint away to an easy lead for Dave Palone. The others

were strung out behind her, but South Pacific surrendered

upset to Royalty For Life (RC Royalty) and driver Tim

Tetrick, part of the driving grand slam. Tetrick waited for

pacesetter Major Athens and favored half-mile track world

champion Dontyouforgetaboutit to settle their duel, then

Brian Sears sent the bold-going Major Athens to the front, then was able to steal a soft second quarter. That promptedYannick Gingras to pull the pony-sized Dontyouforgetaboutit, and he engaged the leader in the final turn. TheirMutt-and-Jeff duel didn't last long as the little colt put awayMajor Athens, but Tetrick was taking dead aim on the leadwith Royalty For Life. He had the most trot in the stretch andtripped the timer at 1:54.3. Trotters by Donato Hanover led the way in the openinground action in the International Stallion Stake. Your SoVain broke his maiden with a 1:55 win for trainer BradMaxwell and Tetrick as he defeated Possessed Fashion. In the second split of the International Stallion Stake abackstretch speed duel developed when Fashion Blizzard(Credit Winner) and driver Jim Morrill, Jr. refused to yield toBroadway Prince and driver Ron Pierce. Their tussle re-sulted in a :55 second half-mile split and Fashion Blizzardfinally yielded. Broadway Prince strutted into the stretch ontop, but Fashion Blizzard bounced back to win easily in1:54.4. The third split for freshman trotters went to Pine Credit(Credit Winner) who took advantage of a duel betweenpacesetting Text Winner and Ron Pierce and Hal Of Mus-cles with John Campbell. Text Winner rebuffed a challengefrom Hall Of Muscles, hanging him out to dry. Incredibly,Hall Of Muscles came back at the pacesetter again enteringthe stretch with Pine Credit right on his back. When driver Lewayne Miller tripped Pine Credit off coverin the stretch, it was game over as the Erv Miller-traineestepped boldly to seal the issue. The time was 1:54.3. “DETOUR” BREAKS: The third time was not the charmfor Detour Hanover The most expensive Standardbred yearling in history,Detour Hanover, was watched closely by horseman andfans in Friday's final race, but he took himself out of conten-tion by breaking stride just before reaching the first quarterpole.Starting from the outside post, Detour Hanover avoidedsome early breakers at the start. Driver David Miller wasslipping Detour Hanover in the second spot when he brokestride. The race turned out to be little more than a workout milefor the even-money favorite Deadliest Catch (Chocolatier)as trainer-driver John Duer let him step off to a sizable leadand coast to the wire in 1:54.4

Tattersalls Pace, Captaintreacherous and Much,

Much More at Red Mile

By Joe Scarpa The highlight on today’s card at The Red Mile? Whereshould we start. Some 20 minutes into the card, a $10,000 Late Closerwill include the Hambletonian winner, Market Share (Reve-nue S). Just three races later, American Jewel (AmericanIdeal) will look for her second win of the meet. About anhour later, 12 of the best 3-year-old male pacers in thesport will meet in the $510,300 Tattersalls Pace. Oh, andCaptaintreacherous (Somebeachsomewhere), one of thetop 2-year-olds in years, will likely put on another show inthe International Stallion Stakes. Captaintreacherous is coming off a 1 1/2-length win in theBluegrass Series, where he crossed the wire in 1:51.3.With Tim Tetrick again in the bike, he will be the odds-onfavorite from post one. "That (last race) was maybe one of his best perfor-mances all year," Tetrick said. "He sat outside and took histime and when I called on him at the top of the lane heraced like a real professional. The trip didn't work out per-fect, but he overcame it. He's just a plain, flat-good horse. He overcomes bad trips, bad drives, and still makes youlook great."

Tetrick will also drive MarketShare. The 3-year-old was notnominated to the Kentucky Futu-rity, so his connections decided touse this race instead as a warm-up for the Breeders Crown.Prayer Session (Like A Prayer),coming off a stakes win at Dela-ware, is also in the field. “He’s not had really any hardtrips,” Tetrick said. “That alwaysmakes a difference. I’m super

impressed with the little guy. He just keeps getting the jobdone. Everybody says he’s super lucky, but I guess it’sbetter to be lucky than good.” On what could be a huge afternoon for the “Bionic Man,”Tetrick also drives American Jewel. “She raced good last week,” Tetrick said. “I was happywith her. She showed good speed around the last turn, so I

was happy with that. Hopefully we get a good spot and don’thave to use her too much and get the job done so we cango to the Breeders Crown off two wins and be the horse tobeat for the Breeders Crown.” As has been the case virtually all year when the top 3-year-old pacers meet, the $510,300 Tattersalls looks likeanyone’s race on paper. Off a win in Lexington last week inthe Bluegrass, Thinking Out Loud (Ponder) has beeninstalled as the 7-2 morning line favorite but he and JohnCampbell will have to deal with Post 11. Meadowlands Pacewinner A Rocknroll Dance (Rocknroll Hanover) may alsohave his problems from Post 12. The draw was kinder toSweet Lou (Yankee Cruiser) who might finally land a bigone from Post 5. Another race sure to draw attention is the eighth, an$87,550 division of the International Stallion Stakes. OddsOn Equuleus (Art Major), the only horse to beatCaptaintreacherous, will look to beat eight others and erasesome of the pain that came with his controversial DQ aweek earlier in the Bluegrass. Facing New York Sire Stakesstandout Doctor Butch (Art Major), he will have his work cutout for him.

In Lexington, All’s Well on the Home FrontBy Lucas Marquardt

LEXINGTON, Ky.--Bolsteredby the sale of a $100,000 Yan-kee Glide colt named HomeFront, the fourth session of theLexington Selected YearlingSale maintained well from ayear ago as overall sale num-bers remain marginally up. Withjust one more session to go,the sale average stands at$40,877, a 3% bump from

Bjorn Noren, agent for Courant AB, struck the winningblow for the session-topping Yankee Glide colt at $100,000.The Pennsylvania-eligible trotter, consigned by KentuckianaFarms as hip 464 (video), was produced by Little MsQueenie (American Winner) and is thus a full-sibling toLittlemscantbwrong ($202k) and Knight of Intrigue ($201k).The top-priced filly to sell Friday was Serena de Vie, aGlidemaster filly who went to W.J. ‘Treacherous’ Team Looks Back, ForwardBy Lucas Marquardt The 2-year-old colt Captaintreacherous(Somebeachsomewhere) is a neck away from being un-beaten in seven career starts, and will look to put anothertally in the win column today in a division of the Interna-tional Stallion Stakes. He’ll do so at a track, The Red Mile, that sits just a fewmiles from where he got his start last year at the LexingtonSelected Yearling Sale. The proximity is appropriate, giventhat he stands as a reminder of why horsemen spend

countless hours scouringthe sales grounds in thefirst place. Look hardenough, and you justmight find a champion inthose barns. It was Brittany Farms’sMyron Bell who signed forthe handsome youngsterduring the sale’s 2011opening session. Bell pur-chasedCaptaintreacherous on

behalf of a partnership for $250,000 from Preferred Equine’sconsignment. From the exciting first crop of his sire, Captaintreacherousappealed to Bell for a number of reasons, not the least ofwhich was that he hailed from a strong female family. “He’s the first colt out of a very well-bred mare, a sister toa horse who won almost $2 million,” Bell explained. “To me,he was top notch. Conformation is pretty much the same formost people, but pedigree is subjective.” That, of course, isn’t to say that Captaintreacherous hadonly a strong catalogue page going for him. “He was veryathletic, and very smart,” said Bell. “His best feature is thathe has a head like an aged horse--he doesn’t make mis-takes, he’s very easy to rate, he’s got a good mouth--he’sjust very smart.” Bell thinks it’s the horse’s good sense that will help himdevelop into a top 3-year-old. “In my mind, it's their2-year-old years, and the rest of their careers,” explainedBell. “At 2, you often win just because you have speed andyou're faster, and you’re often just racing against one or twoother [good] horses. At 3, there are six or eight that can go,and you need more. The horses have to step up theirgames. He’s a horse with class, and you can’t buy that. He'sthe whole nine yards.” With his wins including the $1 million Metro Pace Final,Captaintreacherous has now earned $790,478, and is theheavy choice for Breeders Crown glory. Bell said the colt’simmediate future has been mapped out. “If he races well [today], we'll ship to Canada and race himin two weeks in the eliminations for the Breeders Crown--ifthey have them--and then three weeks from [today] is thefinals for the Breeders Crown,” Bell said last night from the2012 renewal of the Lexington Selected Sale. “If all goeswell, he'll be turned out a Brittany Farms for two months, and we'll bring him back around the first of the year.”

By Brett SturmanRace 8, F&M OpenTEA PARTY PRINCESS has raced too good to lose in herlast two and is arguably in the sharpest form of any rightnow. She was closing willingly right alongside the heavilybacked Camille two back and then kicked home in a wicked:26:3 from an impossible spot last week to just miss. Findsherself in another compact field; gets Rick Z. back and justneeds to be close enough. WAASMULA cut a pretty quickmile last week en route to a solid front end score but she

was left alone while winging. No question from the poleshe'll be put on the lead at some point once again. MON-KEY ON MY WHEEL gave it a game speed try when lastseen two weeks ago; is more than capable when she'sright. WARRAWEE KOINE has been a bit of a disappoint-ment since the layoff and MODERN CONNECTION makesher third start back but isn't helped by the move from theinside to the outside. Race 9, N/W $14,000 L5STATE TREASURER has continuously been racingagainst (and on occasion, beating) the sport’s best sopho-mores this year and while this one is 6 for 16 on the year,he's searching for his first win since August 12. Thosewere some splits this one cut in his most recent in theKeystone Classic; held well considering. Returns hometonight, fits. SPEED AGAIN aims for three in a row; twoback the Menary 3-year-old won in a sub 1:50 mile. Logicalshort priced contender. MONTE CRISTO has beenoveracheiving of late; can't question the form. Beat IdealMatters in his most recent; will offer a price and shouldn'tbe entirely ruled out. OK BOROMIR goes third start off thelayoff; has seen slightly better days in the past. SECRETSOFTHEKNIGHT is better than his recent fewlines indicate; might come to play on the change to Saftic.

Race 10, OpenROCKINCAM has found his better form again after amidseason slump following being so good earlier in theyear. Made a one run move last week and wasn't secondto only the very good Aracache Hanover; no disgrace there. He's generally faced the sports best pacers week in andweek out all year; should be able to excel tonight; JackieMo gets the return call. BETTOR AGAIN is just two racesremoved from his tripped out 1:48:2 mile; gets away fromAracache tonight and should be coming late. BIGTIMEBALL is a weekly threat at this level despite just being 1 for12 on the year. Lifetime winner of $1.5 million had to needhis last; was very strong late. IDEAL RACE steps for thethird straight time while seeking as many straight wins forGillis; he's been here before. Race 11, N/W $16,000 L5SHAWS CREEK BUFF closed with a rush two back againstMachapelo; couldn't get as close last week but it didn'tseem like anyone else was able to close either that race. Icould play tonight from the midpack post. MACHMAN goesfifth start for Menary; was used multiple times in his mostrecent. BIG UNIT made the top last out through fractionsof :26:1 and :54:2; Luc might as well blast again. CARSONS CRACKER goes from two straight at post 9 tothe rail; wasn't bad three and four back when McNair wasbehind him. REBEL JET always seems to be aroundagainst these, and MISSISSIPPI HIPPY has hit the boardin each of his last three against ONSS-RS competition. Wide open field to close out the sequence. The Plays$18 ticket ($1 base): 7 / 4-6-7 / 4-6 / 5-7-8$54 ticket ($1 base): 1-4-7 / 6-7 / 4-6-7 / 5-7-8
