GOLF COMMITTEE REPORT by Glen Reid
Well the course and the greens are in great shape, and it looks like the weather is coming around, just in time for Spring aeration. Well they say the best time to aerate is when the course in its best condition. I apologize for being out of pocket for the last few months, but I’m back and we have a really exciting season planned for our golfers, headlined by our new practice facility, which is coming along wonderfully and will, barring unforeseen issues, open by mid-June. When it is opened, anyone wishing to use it will need to go to the Pro Shop to get a shag tube of balls, (approx. 25) and when finished return the full tube to the Pro Shop. We will be limiting the number of persons using the practice green at any one time to insure safe conditions for everyone. Using your own shag balls is not permitted.
Effective April 15th, we reversed the nines. Teeing off from the new number one tee (old 10) is very exciting and challenging. Until number 9 is opened in June, the course will play only 17 holes. As you finish number 8 (old 17), you need to walk back to the club house and then on to number 10 (old 1). If, while playing 18 (old 9) you hit your ball onto the fairway of new rough of nine, you need to pick up your ball and play it as coming out of “ground under repair”. That means bringing it back into number 18. One club length, from the edge of the new grass, no closer to the hole.
Effective April 1, we need to be entering scores. With our new Blue Golf system, we are asking all scores be entered on a hole-by-hole basis, with the actual score, not the equitable stroke score. Blue Golf software will adjust your score automatically, based on your current index. The Golf Committee has assigned handicaps for each hole, based on previous assignments, and the individual hole scores will be reviewed at the end of the season, and we will adjust handicaps for next year, based that scores data. Golf Committee appreciates your patience and cooperation.
Something new for this year is the Cart Fee Sale; a promotion which will allow for the purchase of tickets, in coupon books (5 per book), discounted based on the number of books purchased. Contact the Pro Shop for details or purchase.
The 2018 Golf Schedule is available on the website, and in pamphlet form in the Pro Shop. Don’t miss the Opening Day scramble and the other fun tournaments planned for this year. Because of the higher temperatures and humidity in mid-summer, the Golf Committee has scheduled the Senior Club Championships for the Friday and Saturday of Labor Day weekend. We are also working on details of a Ryder Cup format tournament scheduled for July, so mark your calendars.
~See you at the Creek
