Zone PosterThe Equal

The Equal ZoneA look into the world of gender bending fashionsThe problem with current clothing stores is that they do not meet the needs of many individuals who choose to bend society's gender barriers. There are many designers online that are working towards blurring those lines and creating clothing that allows all types of self expression and disregards typical female or male clothing.

The Equal Zone is a collaboration of fashion designers for people who feel limited by the black and white boundaries of women's and men's clothing.

Solutions

A social media movement on Facebook or Twitter would bring awareness to the community about the lack of these stores and designers. It could also potentially increase designers and users outreach to each other.

The Gender Neutral Clothing Store would be located in Troy, NY which would help drive the economy through the growth of small businesses. The store would be set up with no men’s or women’s sections just divided up by article of clothing. The décor would have an industrial feel and bring many of the brick and wood elements inside similar to the clothing store WILDFANG.

The Equal Zone Poster was created to present the problem of the lack of gender neutral clothing available and the solution to create a collaborative website to access the clothing.

DesignWebsite

The website The Equal Zone was created in response to the lack of gender bending designers available. The website features information about the discussion as well as a list of designers and the ability to add to the designers.

CoverDesign Report

The design report cover is important in selling the product as well as intriguing the reader. The purpose of the Modular Magnets was to redesign a simple studio object with the focus on detail and user experience.

PrototypingModular Magnet

The following images show a selection of the prototyping phases to create Modular Magnets. The magnets began in three different sizes and shapes. Individually, they met the design but when arranged as a unit, the circles did not fit.

Paper and cardboard were used to test the user experience of the magnet system before drawing up and laser cutting the next prototype.

DesignCover Letter

Dear Snapchat,

I distinctly remember the first time I saw the news about the Snapchat Spectacles. I saw everyone lining up to get them out of the Snapbot in Venice Beach and wished they had come out a year earlier when I was still there working at Hasbro. I definitely have a passion for Snapchat and would love the opportunity to discuss employment in engineering, design, temp, or internship.

My name is Sara Bischof and I am currently in my 4th (out of 5) year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute located near Albany, NY. I am dual majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Design, Innovation, and Society. Together, they make up my major of Program, Design, and Innovation or PDI. PDI brings all the theoretical engineering classes together with prototyping skills and focuses on not only product design but system design as well. It is a very unique and rewarding program that I am extremely proud to be a part of.

My past summer internships at Millstone Nuclear Power Plant (CT-2014), Hasbro (CA-2015), and PCB Piezotronics (NY-2016) have given me experience in industry and allowed me to expand my knowledge and use my skills outside the classroom. However, the experiences overall lacked the combination of engineering and design that I desire in a career. I feel that Snapchat will provide a group of highly intelligent and driven individuals with a true passion for their work, similar to my PDI group at school.

My dual major in design has given me the experience in prototyping and analyzing products such as an automated pet door, white board magnets, and a cake slicer. My opportunity at Hasbro, my 6-month internship in Burbank, CA, has given me experience running a product line creating the toy Trolls from the movie. This entailed collaborating with my engineering team as well as marketers, designers, managers, packaging, and branding as well as my counterpart located in Hong Kong. Although I only have a year of work experience altogether in the field I have had 4 years of experience at RPI which I found to be more challenging than any of my internships.

I am truly looking forward to hearing from you soon and I know you probably get thousands of applications a day but am hoping to connect. Feel free to email call or snapchat with any additional questions or requests.

Thank you sincerely for your time.

The purpose of this cover letter was to show design and creativity through a document that traditionally looks the same. With the media today, people tend to only look at something for a few seconds so grabbing their attention is even more important.

The marshmallow launcher operates using a pullback spring method. The marshmallow sits loosely in a covered vessel at the top of the launcher. The launcher was created to shoot the marshmallow a certain distance with accuracy.
