Amongst the new guidelines that will set the standards in both existing and new buildings, LEED, BREEAM and Green Building are important concepts for the future. Our systems are particularly suited to these new environmental classifications. The illustration shows an office building in Malmö, Sweden with Sapa Facade system 4150. The building is certified according to Green Building.

Energy-efficient solutionsThe Sapa building systems make it easy to design modern houses that fulfil high demands. We have considered every aspect and offer flexi-ble systems where one can easily integrate solar shading and solar cells in a facade to achieve a total solution with good energy conservation.

Save, control and generate energy. Our products are developed with a focus on energy conservation and can easily be combined in an aesthetic and functional way that gives you the potential to build modern and energy efficient.

Custom built project solutions. Building for energy efficiency requires a comprehensive view of the facade. In this section we present project solutions and standard solutions with a focus on energy conservation. Working with project adaptation generates solutions outside our stan-dard range, but at the same time forms the basis for our future product development.

Energy and project adaptationOur standard range can manage most situations. But some projects have specific demands and for these we offer a project solution. The cooperation between architects, our designers and manufacturers creates new custom built solutions that are based on our standard range.

We have even collected together inspiration, advice and tips for the creative phase.

U-value The U-coefficient for all facade systems (heat transfer) is calculated according to EN 13947.The U-coefficient for the whole facade should be given, Ucw Our homepage has tables showing the total U-coefficient for different types of glass and spacing strips. The calculations are based on the calculation standard for Curtain Wall EN 13947:2006.

Sound reduction Sound reduction is measured according to EN ISO 717-1. The sound insulation in a building is described with a sound reduction figure and is given in dB. Sound class or Rw or Rw+Ctr is usually given. Rw is an average value based on the experience of sound.Rw+Ctr takes the spectrum for town traffic into consideration.

Quality assurance P-marking. Our building systems fulfil the demands for P-marking, which includes quality assurance of design, manufacture and installation of windows, doors, wall and roof elements of glass and metal.

CE-marking. Our licensed manufacturers are responsible for manufacture, assembly and that the completed product fulfils the perfor-mance that is declared by the CE marking.

More detailed information about P-marking and CE marking can be found on our website.

Sapa 4150 is easy to install and offers great freedom of design and various functions. The facade can be designed as a facade performed as a self-supporting curtain wall, facade performed as partition between slabs, cold facade or double-skin facade. The rebate is suit-able for double or triple glazing units with thickness up to 48 mm.

The system is single pane ventilated/ drained, i.e. each glass pane or filling pane is ventilated and drained separately which reduces the risk of condensation damage, leakage and cooling of the mullions. In addition, the system is produced with two-step sealing where the external sealing strip functions as a ”raincoat” and the internal sealing strip constitutes the main seal (air/water).

The system is flexible and can easily be integrated with our door systems, window systems, solar shading and solar cells. There is even a wide range of interior mullions/transoms and exterior decorative profiles for greater freedom of design.

Facade system

Sapa Facade 41504150 is a very flexible insulated facade system with two-stage sealing. The system offers a large degree of choice with its wide range of exterior decorative profiles and interior mullions/transoms.

The facade system makes it easy to integrate products such as opening units, filling and low-emission insulated glazing. The design is extremely well insulated and is available in ver-sions with standard insulation 4150 EF and extra insulation 4150 EF SX. Both are compatible with facade systems 4150 and 4150 SX. The glazing strips are chamfered for water diversion.

The solution is ideal for narrow complex building sites since no place for temporary storage of material is required, the elements can often be lifted directly from the transport truck for rational and flexible installation.

Our new 4150 EF, unitized curtain wall system, has been developed for prefabrication of facade elements. The advantage with element facades is better control during the manufacturing process and rational installation without scaffolding on large or complex building projects.

Mullions/ Transoms with 120 or 140 mm profile depth. The visible profile width is 70 mm at the element joint and 50 mm at the intermediate mullions/ transoms.A rebate for double or triple glazing units allows a glass thickness for 4150 EF of 27-48 mm and for 4150 EF SX of 33-56 mm. Traditional mineral wool filling or alternately VakuPanel (vacum panel) with a U-coefficient down to 0.17 W/m2K. Each glazed unit is drained and ventilated separately. There is a very efficient 3-stage rubber strip seal between the ele-ments. This seal reduces the need for butyl sealing and therefore simplifies installation and assembly considerably. Straight cuts allow easier manufacture and easier glass replacement.

The facade is manufactured at the factory as ready to install elements. The elements are completed with glass and finishing outer layer on both outside and inside. The element is hung up on an installation bracket mounted on the edge of the floor. A 3-step rubber strip seals between the elements.

Installation at the building site is fast and a completed facade emerges as the elements are mounted in place. The elements are lifted in place with a builder’s crane or a mobile crane. No scaffolding is required since the installers stand on the floor. The facade element itself can be used as a protective barrier due to its construction.

The solution is ideal in narrow and complex building sites since there is no need for inter-mittent storage of material. The elements are often lifted directly from the transport truck to the installers.

20 21

Sapa 4150 SSG (Structural System Glazing) gives the facade a flat surface since the system has no external glazing profiles and is sealed with joint sealant between the glass units.

Facade system

Sapa Facade 4150 SSG

4150 SSG is built on 50 mm wide aluminium profiles and a double or triple glazing units with warm edge. The glass pane is mechanically anchored in the framework profile with mounting brackets. The glass and weather proofing become a watertight construction, so the system only requires ventilation. The internal sealing strip forms the air seal. The inner sealing strip and the construction of the thermal break optimise insulation in the profiles.

4150 SSG is an entirely glass solution and can be installed as a facade performed as self-supporting curtain wall, or double skin facade.

The system even comprises openable units that can be easily integrated.

5050 System Glazing is a classic solution but has an external glass holder that is only 32 mm wide. The smart glass holders provide optimal glass surface. The system is based on our glass roof system with advantages such as simple installation and good sealing.

Facade system

Sapa Facade 5050 SG

5050 SG consists of insulated 50 mm wide aluminium profiles. The external glass holder is only 32 mm wide but the interior framework profiles are 50 mm wide. The external glass holder is installed with countersunk screws that can even be concealed with a decorative profile.

5050 SG should be constructed as a facade performed as self-supporting curtain wall or double-skin facade. The system has a rebate for double or triple glazing units. Standard sealed insulated glass is used for a cost-effective solution.

Drainage and ventilation are provided via the mullion. The internal sealing strip forms the air seal. The interior profiles have a rectangular shape, various types of decorative profiles are available. The system can easily be complemented with opening units.

Function and form become one with the architecture. Our exterior solar shading reduces a building’s cooling requirements. The system comprises three types of blind; Bow, Wing and Box, which gives you great freedom in the choice of form and function. The solar shading complements our 4150/4150 SX facade system in a simple and aesthetic way.

Controlling energy

Sapa Solar Shading 4550

We have solutions for visually unbroken solar shading and for clearly marked sectional divi-sions. By using our design profile program, the character of the carrier profile can be reinfor-ced to coordinate with the architecture of the building. Our Add bracket system simplifies attachment of solar shading to the facade. Our solar shading is also available with motorised control via an external solution, for optimised control of sunlight and energy.

24 25

Sapa Glazed Elements 3074, 3074 SX and 3050

Exterior and interior glazed elements for light and sight. Glazed element 3074 is available in several fire resistant classes.

3074 Glazed elements consist of insulated, 74-138 mm deep aluminium profiles. 3074 SX Glazed sections consist of extra insulated, 74-106 mm deep aluminium profiles. Glazing is performed from the inside with glazing beads. The outer and inner weather sealings has straight edges for optimum glass day light.

The system is single pane ventilated/drained, which means that each pane/filling is venti-lated/drained separately. In addition, the system is produced with two-step sealing where the external sealing strip functions as a ”raincoat” and the internal sealing strip constitutes the main seal (air/water).

Our variant for internal glazed elements is system 3050, non-insulated, 50 mm deep aluminium profiles. Glazing is performed from the inside with glazing beads.

Sapa Facades and Glazed Elements

Fillings and glassChoice of glass. There are different alternatives, depending on the comfort and energy demands. Profiles that have space for insulated triple glazing naturally give the greatest free-dom of glass choice. There are several different types of glass for functions such as personal safety, burglary protection, fire protection, sound deadening, dirt repulsion, solar protection and energy saving. You can even screen print on glass in various patterns or use coloured glass.

Things to think about. Glass surfaces that are unprotected and positioned so that people can come in contact with them, must be designed so that the risk for personal injury is limited. Such glass surfaces must be dimensioned for the dynamic influence of a person. Adhere to applicable standards and demands.

Choice of filling. Certain parts of an element can or must be fitted with fillings. It is im-portant to consider the material and outer surface of these. If the filling is subject to heavy blows or mechanical loads, one should choose a material of tough board material and sur-face such as stainless or enamelled steel plate.

You can find more alternatives and associated U-value calculations on our website.

Colour selection and choice of material create the entirety of the whole.Use the possibilities in our system.

44 45

Aluminium is a beautiful material. Anodising protects and enhances the metallic character of the surface. We offer six different colours of anodizing. Most of the colours in the NCS-S and RAL spectrums can be used for powder coating. We have chosen a gloss value of 80 since this gives the surface a sober and resistant finish. Decoral provides yet another pos-sibility for decorative surfaces on aluminium profiles. It is basically a powder coating solu-tion that is complemented with the desired pattern. You can combine the different surface treatments to your advantage and create the expression you desire. On exposed parts, such as door leaves and fittings, it is often an advantage to use natural anodisation. The whole is more important than the parts. Think about giving complementary components the same surface finish.

We offer the widest surface treatment program in the Nordic area, with three surface treat-ment methods for aluminium profiles. Each method has its strengths, its advantages. Which of them is preferable depends on the situation and taste.
