HoW doeS SAP HANA overCome THe limiTATioNS oF diSk-bASed lATeNCy?Traditional disk-based data warehouses are limited in their ability to benefit from major technology trends such as multicore central processing units (CPU), in-memory processing, and columnar storage. The result is access that can be 100,000 times slower than columnar in-memory processing of data.

With SAP HANA, data is optimistically loaded into memory when needed and is accessible by all queries – including ad hoc queries – and therefore eliminates disk-based latency. Additionally, SAP HANA enables dynamic addition of columns without needing to remove the data and tables, providing complete business flexibility.
