SAP HANA in-memory platform• SAP HANA is the engine of the real-time

enterprise, enabling clients to analyze large quantities of data from virtually any source, in real time.

• This example showcases actual customer performance of a core reporting process.

Experience the real-time enterprise in action• SAP HANA analyzes current point-of-sale data

in real-time, empowering this organization to review segmentation, merchandising, inventory management, and forecasting information at the speed of thought.

SAP HANA, short for 'High Performance Analytic Appliance' comprises (i) TREX search engine, an in-memory column-oriented search engine, (ii) P*TIME, an in-memory OLTP database acquired by SAP in 2005, and (iii) MaxDB with its in-memory LiveCache engine.

Survey findings by research firm Vanson Bourne…the average cost of running (traditional) SAP was $1,518 per user, per year, but by moving to a single instance SAP HANA, large enterprises could potentially make savings of up to 25%, with the average cost per user per year dropping to $1,135.

Manufacturing Challenges overcome by SAP HANA

Steel companies need real-time information and insights to maintain their competitive advantage • Inventory Control, Production and Warehouse

Management.• Automatic real-time Overall Equipment

Effectiveness (OEE) calculations to identify cost reduction opportunities.

• Easy readability with spreadsheet-like view of production activity across different plant types.

• Analyze flexible consumption of material across locations, at different levels/ hierarchy of material to make a final product

• SAP HANA provides high-speed read access by slashing the runtime of read-intensive MRP by 50%. This speed helps increase use of stored procedures to accelerate calculations, for example, the stock requirements list and where-used lists by providing a rapid bill-of-materials (BOM) explosion with stored procedures and a fast read.

• SAP HANA provides the capability to leverage operational data with near zero latency and combined with other sources• BW on HANA empowers the business user to analyse the information and react on the information in real-time• HANA enables real-time access to complex data (like the material document list) for inventory management. It also serves as an enabler for new

analytical inventory management cockpit, leveraging dashboards and a new analytical user experience.

Page 7: Sap hana as a service value propositionslideshare

Healthcare/ Life Sciences Challenges overcome by SAP HANA

Healthcare / Life Sciences companies need real-time information and insights to maintain their competitive advantage • Real-time Analysis of Complaints for Life Sciences• Personalized Patient Treatments• Centralized Patient Records• Inventory Control, Production and Warehouse

HP’s HANA manages Enterprise & Liquidity Risks

SAP Liquidity Risk Management is based on SAP HANA Appliance Software i.e. SAP HANA DB & SAP NetWeaver7.4.

Solution• HP’s HANA Enables banks to perform real time, high-

speed liquidity reporting, and risk management on largevolumes of individual cash flows and granular assetsand liabilities.

• Analyze bank’s liquidity risk based on aggregations ofcash flows and calculations on cash flows arising fromfinancial transactions.

• Compliant to the latest global regulatory standard onbank capital adequacy and liquidity agreed by themembers of the Basel Committee on BankingSupervision, Basel III.

Problem• Rogue Trading and lack of controls saw JP Morgan lose ~ $5.8 billion,• UBS lost a reported $2 billion due to non-existent limits & controls and• Societe General reportedly took advantage of a 3-day lead time on internal control systems to

hide positions that led to an eventual $7 billion loss

Subscription based contract with 4 major parameters

SAP and / or HANA-as-a-service: Parameters

Number of Instances/ environments RDBMS Database /Application Instances/VMs – in SAPS HANA In-Memory Size per Instance in GB / TB Persistent / External Storage per instance in GB / TB

HP’s building block sizes BW on HANA or Business Suite on HANA Instance – At least 0.25 TB & multiples for Production. In-Memory per Instance for non-production– 64GB min. & multiples of 0.64 GB Application Servers – 1000 SAPS and multiples Additional Storage – At least 50GB and multiples of 50GB.

Economies of ScalePrice per SAPS goes down for higher contracted ( baseline) capacity; as cost of underlying infrastructure, large servers and fixed charges work out cheaper than small servers & associated

SAPS ( SAP Application Performance Standard) is a hardware-independent unit of measurement that describes the performance of a system configuration in the SAP environment. It is derived from the Sales and Distribution (SD) benchmark, where 100 SAPS is defined as 2,000 fully business processed order line items per hour.In technical terms, this throughput is achieved by processing 6,000 dialog steps (screen changes), 2,000 postings per hour in the SD Benchmark, or 2,400 SAP transactions.
