Within easy walking distance to the German Reichstag (parliament), and the Bundeskanzleramt (Federal Chancellery), lies one of the most modern, multi-level train stations in the world, the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) . Two blocks from there, in an almost park-like setting, God has a very special outreach center, the Stadtmission (City Mission) . Dorothy and I were able to meet the young couple who run it last year . We met Sebastian and Salome at our annual church planters conference a year earlier, and they had asked us to come and strategize with them .

The Berliner Stadtmission is a huge, multi-location operation in Berlin . Their headquarters fills an entire city block near the main train station . It houses a youth hostel, an administrative wing, and several larger apartment buildings . Separate buildings exist for refugees, people released from jail who need to be re-integrated into society, people addicted to drugs and alcohol, and for pregnant women and women with babies in need of shelter . Every night the Stadtmission opens to homeless people who would otherwise live on the street .

We went to Berlin to learn about the church plant and how we could help . During the worship service, we got our first look at it . A small group of about 25 people gathered for worship in a basement room that had been used to shelter homeless people a few hours earlier . This reminded us of Luke’s report of Jesus healing 10 lepers of whom only one bothered to praise God for it (Luke 17:11-19) . Where were all of those people from the apartment buildings and night shelter? How discouraging this must be for Salome and Sebastian, we thought . We praise God for these choice young people who are so cheerful and loving in their service for the Lord . It seems to us that they were doing everything right for their church plant, but they could certainly use some prayer support from us .

We praise God for this amazing outreach center in the heart of Berlin, and hope that our report gives you some insight into it, as well as some ideas how you could pray for that important ministry .

Thank you again for being partners with us in this exciting church planting work . You are such a blessing and encouragement to us!

Yours, Ed & Dorothy MoehlO .C . International, Germany
