V aledictorian is an academic title typically given in the United States to the highest ranked student among those

being graduated from an educational in-stitution. The term is an anglicized deri-vation of the Latin vale dicere ("to say farewell"), historically rooted in the vale-dictorian's traditional role as the final speaker at the graduation ceremony. The valediction is considered a final farewell to classmates, before they leave to pursue their individual paths after graduation.

S alutatorian is an academic title given to the second high-est graduate of the graduating class of an educational institu-

tion. The title comes from the saluta-torian's traditional role as the first speaker at a graduation ceremony, delivering the salutation. The general themes of a salutatory are usually of growth, outlook toward the future, and thankfulness.

SBAC scores, AP exams or concurrent enrollment and positively contributed to the overall ranking of PVHS.

SEAL OF BILITERACY Certificate and Red, Blue & Gold Cord

Awarded to students who have taken four years of language with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Cords are awarded for specific combina-tions of GPA, oral examinations, SBAC, ELPAC and SAT scores.

SHARE CLUB Purple & Orange Cord

Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA, have two years membership and plan and organize all major violence prevention awareness events with communication and leadership.

SOCIEDAD HONORARIA HISPÁNICA Red-Orange & Yellow Cord

Members have taken three years of high school Spanish classes and maintained a 3.8 grade point average in those classes.

STUDENT COUNCIL Teal & Black Cord / Silver Cord & Sash

This cord is awarded to Student Council members that have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA, served in the Student Council for at least 2 years and maintained all “A”s in Student Council.

ASB Executive and Class Officers receive the silver cord and sash.

CSF Life Members, also called, “Seal-bearers” are those students who have maintained CSF membership for four semesters from their sophomore to senior year, at least one semester during the senior year. Membership is

determined largely by the students’ grades in college prep, honors, and advanced placement classes. These students are also dedicated to character, scholarship, leadership, and service.

CREATIVE EXCELLENCE Medal

Recipients are Visual and Performing Arts students who have completed eight terms of VPA courses with a “B” or better and who have contributed to the VPA program throughout their high school career.

FAMILY CAREER & COMMUNITY LEADERS OF AMERICA Red & White Cord

Students are recognized for participating in the FCCLA club for two or more years, a minimum of three club events per year and for completing two or more classes with a “C” or better in the Family & Consumer Sciences Department.

FRENCH HONOR SOCIETY Blue, White & Red Cord
