SANJUSAN MACHIYA - How to reach the house

The easiest way to go from Kyoto station to Sanjusan Machiya is by taxi. It will take you less than 10 minutes and cost about yen 700-1,000.

The check-in office (see separate map) is a couple of min on foot from the Central Exit of the station. They’ll be pleased to call you a cab.

The purple route shown below follows the Shiokoji street, crosses the Kamo river. The taxi must then take a right because of a one way street. The taxi will turn left just before the train tracks and follow the tracks up to a pedestrian overpass. It will (should) drop you there.

Purple Drop: From the Kyoto Station: The taxi should drop you at the pedestrian overpass. From there, cross the street and take the small lane going up. After about 10 m, you’ll find the small lane on your right. Sanjusan Machiya is at the end of this lane. (The red “drop” spot is where taxi drivers should drop you whenever you return home from the north. Take the small street facing the parking, follow it for about 40 m and you’ll find a small lane on your left. Sanjusan Machiya is at the end of this lane.)

By Bus

To reach the house by bus from the Kyoto station, you can take the buses #100, #206 or #208. All three will stop at the “Hakubutsukan-Sanjusangendo Mae” bus stop, and the #208 will stop at the “Imagumano” bus stop which is a little nearer from the house. Please, refer to the maps above for the way to follow to reach the house.
