HOUSEHOLDS IN GOD’S SERVICE In the ancient world, “household” was a wide-reaching concept. When Joshua today speaks of his household serving the Lord, he meant not just those peo-ple who lived inside his walls or those related to him by blood or marriage; he meant slaves or servants and their families, and anyone indebted to him in any way. Even his livestock and other possessions would be consecrat-ed to service of God. In our world, we value allowing individuals their freedom to choose how they live, and wouldn’t think of offering our pets to the service of God. But, as we discern our vocation as disciples bap-tized into Christ, we can come to realize how far-ranging the “households” of our lives still are: how we act toward our spouses, children, roommates or anyone we live with; our behavior with neighbors; or in public as we encounter many “strangers” every day in stores or traffic who suddenly are “next door” to us. How can we use our time, our resources, or gifts for selfless reasons rather than personal gain? No matter what life our wit-ness to the Good News calls us to, we all have a “household” that must be consecrated to service of the Lord our God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

S T E W A R D S H I P A W A Y O F L I F E Hunger for Christ - As human beings, we seem to have a wide array of insa able desires. We long for more money, more me, and more stuff. We spend millions of dollars each year on remedies for our over-ea ng. We look to our neighbors to see what they have that we want so we can keep up with them in the race toward happiness. We look for instant gra fica on only to find that our hunger for whatever it is remains intact. Stewardship is the pathway to curbing all those cravings. On this journey, we let go of things that keep us ed down to this world and ed up in our sin. All that we have becomes instruments for God to use in our lives and the lives of our neighbors. When we have detached from enough in this world, we find out the truth: nothing on earth can truly sa sfy our cravings completely. Jesus Christ is the sole answer for our needs and desires. Although the truth is right in front of us at each and every Mass in the Eucharist, we can easily spend our days in denial of that truth. It takes trust to step out in faith and give it all over to God. We are all called to let go and let God be God. Answering the call is easier said than done. However, if we can finally make that bold move, we will find ourselves completed by the One who was with us all along. • Tracy Earl Welliver/ LPI

Use Your Envelopes or use On-Line Giving We encourage everyone to use their envelopes or On Line Giving. Think of your envelopes / on-line giving as a gift to God. You take the time to thoughtfully, prayerfully choose your gift, wrap it & present it eagerly to our Lord. Many times families will ask for a letter stating that they are registered, participating members of San Sebastian in order to become a Godparent, Confirmation Sponsor or to enroll in Catholic Schools. Using your envelope or Online Giving makes our job easier & allows us to say “Yes! this family is registered & participating here at San Sebastian. “
