MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear Students, Faculty, Colleagues, Family, and Friends of the School of Library and Information Science:

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the San José State University School of Library and Information Science 2012 Convocation. Today marks a significant milestone in the lives of our students, and I thank you for joining us in recognition of their achievements.

We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of all our graduates. Many of them showcased their learning through a comprehensive e-portfolio. Other graduates completed consulting projects for real-world clients, and yet others published a thesis.

During their time at our School, a large number of our graduates participated in internships, and others completed course-based projects for libraries and other organizations. These hands-on projects not only provide valuable experiences for students, but also improve services for our communities.

Many of our graduates are also giving back to the profession through their involvement in professional associations, including leadership roles in our School’s professional association student chapters. They presented in professional venues, including on-site and online conferences, and published their works. I’m pleased to see this level of engagement between our graduates and the professional community.

In addition, other graduates helped their peers acclimate to our School’s sophisticated online learning environment. And all of our graduates demonstrated their abilities to adapt to emerging technology – knowledge that will serve them well as they encounter technology-rich work environments in their professional pursuits.

As we congratulate our graduates, we also want to recognize the families and friends who have supported their educational goals. We share the pride you feel in their accomplishments and the excitement for the opportunities that lie ahead.

Congratulations and welcome!
