San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival

Everybody’s eyes will be fixed on the Bay when dragon boats quickly take to the 20th Annual Kaiser Permanente i.e. San Francisco International Boat Festival that is basically held on Treasure Island! You all are cordially invited to be a part of the event & cheer on the fleet of colourful 40+ foot dragon boats as they contest to the beat of Chinese drums on Saturday & Sunday, i.e. 19th and 20th of September, 2015 from 10:00 A.M to 05:00 P.M. This two-day event is absolutely admission-free. The festival fetches a weekend of outstanding dragon boat racing, remarkable cultural presentations, delightful food, a variation of clothes and crafts sellers, and kid-friendly events in Dragon Land where games, arts and crafts, and rides await. At the heart of the carnival is the race enthusiasm, with more than 120 dragon boat teams consisting of approximately 3,000 paddlers demonstrating teams that include local businesses and non-profits as well as competitive teams from throughout the U.S. and Canada. The Opening Ceremony is not to be missed out! So be there at the festival on Saturday at 11:30 am, where monks will carry out a traditional blessing and eye dotting ritual to stimulate the dragons for a weekend of racing, joined by City & County of San Francisco elected officials. On the stage, there will be lion and dragon dances to enjoy, Chinese acrobats, taiko drumming, martial arts, Tahitian hopping, musical theatre and much more! At the Kaiser Permanente Health and Fitness Pavilion, you can try out the bicycle twist art, get an airbrush dragon tattoo, enjoy at the sunscreen bar, and let your kids climb aboard a real dragon boat. There will be heaps of events for the kids, like Dragon Land — a 3,500 square foot kids' activity area filled with arts and crafts activities, sports, animal balloons, face painting, tattoos and the Flax Creative Arts Activity Area. Kids can also enjoy themselves riding the small helicopter or rotating dragon rides, hike in a pirate house, test their quickness and power at the Spider Mountain obstacle course, play jump ropes in the Classic Kids Play Area, or touch live reptiles with Tree Frog Treks. The interactive Microsoft Stores-sponsored Land of Smart Kids Area is the new addition to the Festival this year, highlighting science, technology and math-oriented events, entertainment with Surface Pro 3 tablet and Xbox One, and also coding!

When you feel starving, you can check out the food collection, including some of San Francisco's favorite food sellers such as Curry Up Now and Let’s Be Frank Organic Hot Dogs.
