PTY priority

Situation:

PTY is switched on and lights up in the dis-play.No station offering the selected programmetype can currently be received (with seektuning or scan). The set will switch back to the previous sta-tion.As soon as a programme with such PTY canbe received within the broadcasting network, the unit will switch over to the correspond-ing station for the duration of the pro-gramme.

Example:German broadcasting network NDR:

- Station tuned in: NDR3.

- “PTY” lights up in the display.

- Programme type “POP” selected.

- Seek tuning is started.

- No station with “PTY-POP” can befound.

- The display shows “NO PTY” and

Receiving traffic programme stations with RDS-EON

The abbreviation “EON” stands for En-hanced Other Networks, meaning theexchange of information within a radio net-work.Many FM broadcasters offer traffic messag-es for their service area at regular intervals. All traffic programme stations transmit aspecial carrier signal alongside their pro-grammes, which is decoded by your car ra-dio. If this signal is identified, “TP” will ap-pear in the display (Traffic Programme). In addition to these, there are also stationswhich do not actually transmit traffic pro-grammes themselves, but by using RDS-EON they offer the possibility to receive thetraffic messages broadcast by another traf-fic programme station in the same radionetwork. If you wish to have the priority for traffic an-nouncements activated while listening toone of these stations (e.g. NDR3), “TA” mustappear on the display panel. If a traffic announcement is broadcast, theradio will automatically switch to the linkedtraffic programme station (in this case,NDR2) for the duration of the message andreturn to the original programme (NDR3)afterwards.

Digital Signal Adaptation

With DSA, you can recall and tune in equa-lizer functions and activate the dynamic dri-ving noise covering function.

Overview of Equalizer functions

The HiFi reproduction in a car is affected, for example, by the interior fittings (uphols-tery, windows), loudspeaker positioning, etc.

With the integrated equalizer, you can tunein nine frequency bands per channel: 60 Hz,125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz,4 kHz, 8 kHz, 16 kHz.

You can store and recall different settingsin five memory banks each (preset buttons1 to 5):

With preset button 6, the correspondingequalizer is deactivated.

For optimal acoustic control, the followingalternatives are available:

Self-calibrating equalizer(HiFi calibration)

The set is equipped with a self-calibrating,adaptive 9-band equalizer for four channels.Four channels can be electronically calibra-ted per memory bank (front left, front right, rear left, rear right).

Manual equalizer

Separate equalizer adjustments can be per-formed manually for front and rear per me-mory bank.

Preset equalizer(Default allocation of equalizer)

Permanent equalizer settings can be recal-led with buttons 1 to 6 or with / / << >>.

1 ROCK, 2 DISCO, 3 JAZZ, 4 CLASSIC,5 VOCAL, 6 P - EQ OFF

HiFi calibrationYou can perform and store electronic cali-bration for five different situations. These calibrations are stored and recalledwith the buttons 1 to 5.You can select the following situations, forexample:

1 For the driver only

2 For driver and front passenger

3 Front passenger

4 Passengers front and rear

5 Rear passengers only. You deactivate the equalizer with button 6(“P-EQ OFF” in the display.)

To calibrate, you have to fix the microphonelead (microphone opening pointing down) tothe roof lining with adhesive tape. The position of the microphone for situation1 (driver alone) is directly on a level with thedriver’s head. For situation 2, the micropho-ne is between the driver and the front pas-senger, for situation 3 on a level with thefront passenger’s head, etc.

Start HiFi calibration

During the calibration process it is impor-tant that the surroundings are really quiet.Any outside noises will distort the readings. The loudspeaker radiation should not beimpaired by any objects. The system must be switched on.• Position the microphone for the situati-

on to be programmed.Incorrect calibrations result when the micro-phone is wrongly positioned.Depending on the vehicle and on the install-tion position of the speakers, calibration maybe linear or with a bass boost. Try out whichsetting you like more. You can preselect with DNC. The followingstand for:

DNC-OFF - linear frequency responseDNC-LOW - slight bass boostDNC-MID - medium bass boostDNC-HIGH - stronger bass boost.

Dynamic Noise Covering

With DNC, a volume considered to be pleas-ant when the vehicle is stationary is boost-ed during driving.Depending upon noise development in thecar, the frequency ranges are boosted withdifferent intensity.Even during changing noise development, the volume and the sound pattern remainpleasantly distinguishable. Short-term noi-ses such as, for example, when crossingrailway tracks, are not taken into account.

DNC calibration

For operation in your particular car, you haveto calibrate using the test microphone. Withthe adhesive tape supplied, the microphoneis fixed permanently in the vicinity of theconsole, but not directly in the most droningpositions or close to the ventilation/heating.The microphone opening must be directedtowards the passanger compartment.
