About the Product Capacity Representation Standard

About HDD Capacity RepresentationThe capacity of the storage device (HDD, SSD) of the manufacturer is calculatedassuming that 1KB=1,000 Bytes.However, the operating system (Windows) calculates the storage device capacityassuming that 1KB=1,024 Bytes, and therefore the capacity representation of theHDD in Windows is smaller than the actual capacity due to the difference in capacitycalculation.(E.g. For a 80GB HDD, Windows represents the capacity as 74.5GB,80x1,000x1,000x1,000 byte/(1,024x1,024x1,024)byte = 74.505GB)In addition, the capacity representation in Windows may be even smaller because someprograms such as Recovery Solution may reside in a hidden area of the HDD.

About Memory Capacity RepresentationThe memory capacity reported in Windows is less than the actual capacity of memory.This is because BIOS or a video adapter uses a portion of memory or claims it forfurther use.(E.g. For 1GB(=1,024MB) memory installed, Windows may report the capacity as1,022MB or less)



Recovery Solution Representation (Optional)

Q. What is a Recovery Area?

A. - Samsung computers have an additional partition to recover computers or savebackup les. (Only for models with the Samsung Recovery Solution.)This partition is called a Recovery Area and it includes a recovery image thatcomprises of the OS and application programs.

- You can either double-click the Samsung Recovery Solution icon on the desktopor press F4 while booting the computer to enter the Recovery Area. Then youcan back up the present computer state or recover the computer from backed up

images. - For deleting the Recovery Area, you need to use an additional Recovery AreaRemoval Tool. After deleting the recovery area, you can use the newly createdpartition for other uses, such as for saving personal data. Be careful that once therecovery area is deleted, the Samsung Recovery Solutions will not work anymore.

Q. The capacity representation of the hard disk drive(HDD) in Windows isdifferent from the product speci cations.

A. - The capacity of the storage device (HDD) of the manufacturer is calculatedassuming that 1KB=1,000 Bytes. However, the operating system (Windows)calculates the storage device capacity assuming that 1KB=1,024 Bytes, andtherefore the capacity representation of the HDD in Windows is smaller than theactual capacity. This is due to the difference in capacity calculation and does notmean the installed HDD is different from the product speci cations.

- The capacity representation in Windows may be smaller than the actual capacitybecause some programs occupy a certain area of the HDD outside of Windows.

- For models with Samsung Recovery Solution, the HDD capacity representationin Windows may be smaller than the actual capacity because Samsung RecoverySolution uses a hidden area of about 5~20GB of the HDD to save the recoveryimage, and that hidden area is not counted towards the total size available toWindows. The size of Samsung Recovery Solution varies by models because of thedifferent size of applied programs.

AuthorizedParts

Do not use the computerin a badly ventilatedlocation such as onbedding, on a pillow orcushion, etc, and donot use it in a locationsuch as room with oorheating as it may causethe computer to beoveerheated.Take care that thecomputer vents (on theside or the bottom) are notblocked especially in theseenvironments. are blocked, the computermay overheat and it maycause a computer problem,or even an explosion.

Do not use the computerin a humid location suchas a bathroom or sauna.Please use the computerwithin the recommendedtemperature and humidityrange (10~3 5 ºC, 20~80%RH).

Power Off

Do not close the LCDpanel and put thecomputer into your bagto move it when it is stillturned on.If you put the computer intoyour bag without turningit off, the computer mayoverheat and there is adanger of re. Shut thecomputer down properlybefore moving it.

Never heat the batteryor put the battery into a

re. Do not put or use thebattery in a hot locationsuch as a sauna, insidea vehicle exposed to theheat, and so on.There is a danger of anexplosion or re.

Take care not to allowmetal objects such as akey or clip to touch thebattery terminal (metalparts).If a metal object touchesthe battery terminals, itmay cause excessivecurrent ow and it maydamage the battery, orresult in a re.

If liquid leaks out ofthe battery or there isa funny smell comingfrom the battery, removethe battery from thecomputer and contact aservice center.There is a danger of anexplosion or re.

To use the computersafely, replace a deadbattery with a new,authorized battery.

Upgrade Related

Never disassemble thepower supply or ACadapter.There is a danger of electricshock.

When removing the RTC(Real Time Clock) battery,keep it out of the reachof children as they couldtouch and/or swallow it.There is a danger ofchoking. If a child hasswallowed it, contact adoctor immediately.

Use only authorizedparts (multi-plug, batteryand memory) and neverdisassemble parts.This may result in damageto the product, electricshock or re.

Shut down the computerand disconnect all cablesbefore disassemblingthe computer. If there isa modem, disconnectthe phone line. If youare disassembling anotebook computer,

make sure to remove thebattery.Failing to do so, may causeelectric shock.

Follow the instructionsfor the relevant location(e.g. airplane, hospital,etc.) when using awireless communicationdevice (wireless LAN,Bluetooth, etc.).

When carrying thenotebook computer withother items, such as theadapter, mouse, booksetc, take care not topress anything againstthe notebook computer.If a heavy object ispressed against thenotebook computer, awhite spot or stain mayappear on the LCD.Therefore, take care not toapply any pressure to thenotebook.

In this case, place thenotebook computer in aseparate compartmentaway from the otherobjects.

Cautions on Preventing Data Loss (Hard Disk Management)Take care not to damage the data on ahard disk drive.

A hard disk drive is so sensitive toexternal impact that an external impactmay cause loss of data on the surfaceof the disk.

Take extra care, because moving thecomputer or an impact on the computerwhen it is turned on may damage the

data of the hard disk drive. The company is not liable for any lossof any data caused by a customer’scareless usage or bad environmentalconditions.

Causes that may damage the data of ahard disk drive and the hard disk driveitself.

The data may be lost when an externalimpact is applied to the disk whiledisassembling or assembling thecomputer.

The data may be lost when thecomputer is turned off or reset by apower failure while the hard disk drive isoperating.

The data may be lost and irrecoverabledue to a computer virus infection.

The data may be lost if the power isturned off while running a program.

Moving or causing an impact to thecomputer while the hard disk driveis operating, may cause les to becorrupted or bad sectors on the harddisk.

To prevent data loss due to damage to the hard disk drive, please backup your

data frequently.


Proper Posture During Computer Use

Proper Posture

Adjust the heights of desks and chairsappropriate to your height.The heights are to be adjusted so thatyour arm forms a right angle when youplace your hand over the keyboard whilesitting down on a chair.

Adjust the height of chair so that your heelis comfortably placed on the oor.

Do not use the computer while youare lying down, but only while you aresitting down.

Do not use the computer on your lap.If the computer temperature increases,there is a danger of burning yourself.

Work while keeping your back straight. Use a chair with a comfortable back.

Keep the center of your leg weight noton the chair but on your feet when youare sitting on a chair. To use the computer while talking overthe telephone, use a headset. Usingthe computer with the phone on yourshoulder is bad for posture. Keep frequently used items within acomfortable work range (where youcan reach them with your hands).

Maintaining a proper posture during computer use is very important to prevent physicalharm.The following instructions are about maintaining a proper posture during computer usedeveloped through human engineering. Please read and follow them carefully whenusing the computer.Otherwise, the probability of (RSI: Repetitive Strain Injury) from repeated operationsmay increase and serious physical harm may be caused.

The instructions in this manual have been prepared so that they can be applied withinthe coverage of general users.If the user is not included in the coverage, the recommendation is to be appliedaccording to the user’s needs.

Eye Position

Keep the monitor or LCD away fromyour eyes by at least 50cm.

Adjust the height of the monitor andthe LCD screen so that its top height isequal to or lower than your eyes.

Avoid setting the monitor and LCDexcessively bright.

Keep the monitor and LCD screen

clean. If you wear glasses, clean them beforeusing the computer.

When entering contents printed on apaper into the computer, use a staticpaper holder so that the height of thepaper is almost equal to that of themonitor.

Hand Position

Keep your arm at a right angle asshown by the gure.

Keep the line from your elbow to yourhand straight. Do not place your palm over thekeyboard while typing. Do not hold the mouse with excessiveforce.

Do not press the keyboard, touchpad ormouse with excessive force. It is recommended connecting anexternal keyboard and mouse whenusing the computer for long periods oftime.

Volume Control(Headphones and Speakers)

Check your volume rst to listen tomusic.

Check yourvolume!!

Check if the volume is too loud beforeusing headphones.

It is not recommended usingheadphones for long periods of time.

Any deviation from the equalizerdefault setting could cause hearingimpairment.

The default setting can be changedthrough software and driver updateswithout your intervention. Please checkthe equalizer default setting before rstusage.

Use Time (Break Time)

Take a break for 10 minutes or moreafter a 50-minute period when workingfor more than one hour.

Illumination

Do not use the computer in dark

locations. The illumination level forcomputer use must be as bright so forreading a book. Indirect illumination is recommended.Use a curtain to prevent re ection onthe LCD screen.

Operation Condition

Do not use the computer in hot andhumid locations. Use the computer within the allowedtemperature and humidity rangespeci ed in the User Guide.

Safety Instructions

Your system is designed and testedto meet the latest standards for safetyof information technology equipment.However, to ensure safe use of thisproduct, it is important that the safetyinstructions marked on the product and inthe documentation are followed.

Always follow these instructions tohelp guard against personal injuryand damage to your system.

Setting Up your System Read and follow all instructionsmarked on the product and in thedocumentation before you operate yoursystem. Retain all safety and operatinginstructions for future use.

Do not use this product near water or aheat source such as a radiator. Set up the system on a stable worksurface.

The product should be operated onlywith the type of power source indicatedon the rating label.

Ensure that the electrical outlet youare using to power your equipment is

easily accessible in case of re or shortcircuit. If your computer has a voltage selectorswitch, make sure that the switch is inthe proper position for your area. Openings in the computer case areprovided for ventilation. Do not blockor cover these openings. Make sureyou provide adequate space, at least 6inches (15 cm), around the system forventilation when you set up your workarea. Never insert objects of any kindinto the computer ventilation openings. Ensure that the fan vents on the bottomof the casing are clear at all times.Do not place the computer on a softsurface, doing so will block the bottomvents. If you use an extension cord with thissystem, make sure that the total power

rating on the products plugged into theextension cord does not exceed theextension cord power rating.

Care During Use

Do not walk on the power cord or allow anything to rest on it. Do not spill anything on the system. The best way to avoid spills is to not eat or drinknear your system.

Some products have a replaceable CMOS battery on the system board. There is adanger of explosion if the CMOS battery is replaced incorrectly. Replace the batterywith the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer.Dispose of batteries according to the manufacturers instructions. If the CMOS batteryrequires replacement insure that a quali ed technician performs the task. When the computer is turned off, a small amount of electrical current still ows

through the computer.To avoid electrical shock, always unplug all power cables, remove the battery andmodem cables from the wall outlets before cleaning the system. Unplug the system from the wall outlet and refer servicing to quali ed personnel if:

– The power cord or plug is damaged. – Liquid has been spilled into the system.

– The system does not operate properly when the operating instructions are followed. – The system was dropped or the casing is damaged. – The system performance changes.

1 If you turn the power on for the rsttime, the Register Windows screenappears. If you register Windowsaccording to the instructions on the

screen, the computer will be restarted.

2 After the computer has beenrestarted, the Partition Setup screenappears.To resize the C and D drives, adjustthe partition size using the slide barand the click Next .

The Partition Setup function is onlyavailable when the computer isturned on for the rst time and willnot be available afterwards. Onceyou have completed the partitioning,it cannot be resized. Partition thedisk carefully.

3 The Initial Status Backup screenappears.

To continue the Initial Status Backup,click Restart Now . The computer willrestart.

4 The Initial Status Backup is performedto backup the initial status of theC drive to a secure location. Thisbackup image is used for theComplete Restore function thatrestores your computer to the initialstatus.

A2 If a network key (encryption key) isused, the AP (Access Point) andwireless Ad-Hoc network keys mustbe the same.

The AP network key can becon gured using an AP managementprogram. For more detailedinformation, ask your networkadministrator or product provider.

Even if the signal strength isexcellent, the network connectionmay not operate properly if theTCP/IP properties are not properlycon gured, or the network key(encryption key) is incorrect.

A1 Check that the TCP/IP propertiesare con gured properly. Whenconnecting to an AP, right-click theNetwork Connections icon onthe taskbar and select Network andSharing Center . If you click theViewStatus next to a connected wirelessnetwork device and then click theDetail button, you can view the IPinformation.
