Install the UIM card and batteryWhen you subscribe to a cellular service, you will receive a User Identity Module (UIM) card, with subscription details, such as your personal identification number (PIN) and optional services.

Insert the UIM card.3

Place the UIM card into the phone with the gold-•coloured contacts facing down.If you do not insert a UIM card, you can only use •your phone’s non-network services and some menus.You can only use voice call and text message •functions with the regular UIM card. To use full network services, insert an OMH card (OMH marked OMH RUIM card).

To install the UIM card and battery,

If the phone is on, press and hold [1 ] to turn it off.

Remove the back cover.2

Be careful not to damage your fingernails when you remove the back cover.

Charge the batteryBefore using the phone for the first time, you must charge the battery.

You can charge the phone with the provided travel adapter or by connecting the phone to a PC with a PC data cable.

Use only Samsung-approved chargers and cables. Unauthorised chargers or cables can cause batteries to explode or damage your phone.

When your battery is low, the phone will emit a warning tone and display a low battery message. The battery icon will also be empty and blinking. If the battery level becomes too low, the phone will automatically power off. Recharge your battery to continue using your phone.

Plug the large end of the travel adapter into a power 3 outlet.

You can use the phone while it is charging, but it •may take longer to fully charge the battery.While charging, the phone may heat up. This •is normal and should not affect your phone’s lifespan or performance.If your phone is not charging properly, bring your •phone and the charger to a Samsung Service Centre.

When the battery is fully charged (the battery icon is 4 no longer moving), unplug the travel adapter from the phone and then from the power outlet.

Do not remove the battery before removing the travel adapter. Doing this may cause damage to the phone.

› Charge with the travel adapterOpen the cover to the multifunction jack on the side 1 of the phone.

Plug the small side of the travel adapter into the 2 multifunction jack.

Improperly connecting the travel adapter can cause serious damage to the phone. Any damage caused by misuse is not covered by the warranty.

Insert a memory card (optional)To store additional multimedia files, you must insert a memory card. Your phone accepts microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory cards with maximum capacities of 16 GB (depending on memory card manufacturer and type).

Samsung uses approved industry standards for memory cards, but some brands may not be fully compatible with your phone. Using an incompatible memory card may damage your phone or the memory card and can corrupt data stored on the card.

Your phone supports only the FAT file structure for •memory cards. If you insert a card formatted with a different file structure, your phone will ask you to reformat the memory card.Frequent writing and erasing of data will shorten •the lifespan of memory cards.

› Charge with the PC data cableBefore charging, ensure that your PC is turned on.

Open the cover to the multifunction jack on the side 1 of the phone.

Plug one end (micro-USB) of the PC data cable into the 2 multifunction jack.

Plug the other end of the PC data cable into a USB port 3 on a PC.

Depending on the type of PC data cable you are using, it may take some time before charging begins.

When the battery is fully charged (the battery icon is 4 no longer moving), unplug the PC data cable from the phone and then from the PC.

Push the memory card gently until it disengages from 3 the phone.

Pull the memory card out of the memory card slot.4 Replace the back cover.5

Do not remove a memory card while the phone is transferring or accessing information, as this could result in loss of data or damage to the memory card or phone.

› Format the memory cardFormatting your memory card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with your phone. Format the memory card only on the phone.

In Menu mode, select Settings → Memory → Memory card and press <Format>.

Before formatting the memory card, remember to make backup copies of all important data stored on your phone. The manufacturer’s warranty does not cover loss of data resulting from user actions.

Push the memory card in the memory card slot until it 3 locks in place.

Getting started

Turn your phone on and offTo turn on your phone,

Press and hold [1 ].

Enter your PIN and press <2 OK> (if necessary).

When the setup wizard opens, customise your phone 3 as desired by following the screen.

To turn your phone off, repeat step 1 above.

Follow all posted warnings and directions from •official personnel when in areas where the use of wireless devices is restricted, such as aeroplanes and hospitals.To use your phone's non-network services only, •switch to the offline profile. ► p. 19

Alphanumeric Enter numbers, letters and special characters.

AltUse characters on the upper half of the keys in a text input field.

SpaceInsert a space in a text input field; Switch to the silent mode (press and hold).

Access menusTo access your phone’s menus,

In Idle mode, press <1 Menu> to access Menu mode.

Press the Navigation key to select a menu or 2 application.

Press <3 Back> to move up one level; Press [ ] to close the menu or application and return to Idle mode.

Customise your phoneGet more from your phone by customising it to match your preferences.

› Change the language of the displayIn Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Phone → Language.

To set up a profile,

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Sound profiles.

Scroll to the profile you are using.2 Press3 <Edit>.

Customise the sound options for incoming calls, 4 incoming messages, and other phone sounds. ► p. 74

Available sound options vary depending on the selected profile.

Press5 <Save>.

To switch to another profile, select it from the list.

› Select a wallpaper for the idle screenIn Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Display → Wallpaper.

› Set the current time and dateIn Menu mode, select 1 Settings →Time and date.

Set the time and date format.2 › Adjust the volume of the key tones

In Idle mode, press the Volume key.1 Adjust the key tone volume by pressing the Volume 2 key.

› Switch to the silent profileIn Idle mode, press and hold [ ] to mute or unmute your phone.

› Use the smart home screenThe smart home screen allows you to access your favourite applications and contacts and view upcoming events or tasks. You can customise the smart home screen to fit your preferences and needs.

To customise the smart home screen,

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Display → Smart home.

Scroll to 2 Smart idle.

Press the Confirm key.3

Select a memory location.2 Select an image and select an option.3

› Select a theme for menu screensIn Menu mode, select1 Settings → Display →Theme.

Select a theme.2 Press <3 Set> to apply the theme.

Adjust the brightness of the display ›In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Display → Brightness.

Scroll left or right to adjust the level of brightness.2 Press <3 Save>.

The brightness level of the display will affect how quickly the phone consumes battery power.

Scroll to 4 Shortcuts toolbar and press <Options> → Edit.

Select a menu to change or an empty location.5 Select the menus you want.6 Press <7 Save>.

› Lock your phoneYou can lock your phone by activating the phone password.

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Security.

Select 2 Phone lock.

Enter a new 4-digit password and press <3 OK>.

Enter the new password again and press <4 OK>.The first time you access a menu that requires a password, you will be prompted to create and confirm a password.

Select the items to display on the smart home screen.4 Available items may vary depending on your region or service provider.

Press <5 Options> → Save or press <Save>.You can change the idle screen to another style. In Menu mode, select Settings → Display → Smart home and select a style you want.

Press <6 Save>.

To access the smart home items, press the Navigation key to scroll through the items on the smart home screen and press the Confirm key to select an item.

To customise the shortcuts toolbar,

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Display → Smart home.

Scroll to 2 Smart idle.

Press <3 Edit>.

› Activate the mobile trackerWhen someone inserts a new UIM card in your phone, the mobile tracker feature will automatically send the contact number to specified recipients to help you locate and recover your phone.

Activate the mobile trackerIn Menu mode, select 1 Settings→Security.

Select 2 Mobile tracker→Settings.

Enter your password and press <3 OK>.

Press <4 Change> to activate the mobile tracker feature.

Scroll down to 5 Recipients and enter a phone number.When you enter a phone number, you can add a country code (if necessary).

Scroll down to 6 Sender and enter a sender’s name.

Press <7 Save> →Accept.

Once the phone lock is enabled, you must enter the password each time you turn on the phone.

If you forget your password, bring your phone to a •Samsung Service Centre to unlock it.Samsung is not responsible for any loss of •passwords or private information or other damages caused by illegal software.

› Lock your UIM cardYou can lock your phone by activating the PIN supplied with your UIM card.

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Security.

Select 2 PIN lock.

Enter the password of your UIM card and press <3 OK>.

Once the PIN lock is enabled, you must enter the UIM password each time you turn on the phone.

Press <5 Change> to select On to lock the remote phone.

Press <6 OK>.

To lock user data on the remote phone,

From the Access remote phone screen, select 1 Privacy lock.

Press <2 Change> to select On to lock important user data.

Press <3 OK>.

To hide data on the remote phone,

From the Access remote phone screen, select 1 Hide user data.

Press <2 Change> to select On to hide user data.

Press <3 OK>.

Access a remote phoneIf a remote phone has the mobile tracker 2.0 feature and it is activated, you can hide or delete data, and get contact or location information of the remote phone. You can also lock the remote phone or important user data (messages, contacts, and files) and set the remote phone to divert all the incoming calls and messages to a specified phone.

To lock the remote phone,

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Security → Mobile tracker → Access remote phone.

Enter the phone number of the remote phone and 2 scroll down.

Enter the mobile tracker password of the remote 3 phone and press <OK>.

Select 4 Phone lock.

To forward calls to another phone,

From the Access remote phone screen, select 1 Call diverting.

Enter the phone number to which incoming calls of 2 the remote phone will be forwarded.

Press <3 OK>.All incoming calls of the remote phone will be forwarded to the new phone number.

To forward messages to another phone,

From the Access remote phone screen, select 1 Message forwarding.

Press <2 Change> to select On to forward messages.

Scroll down and enter the phone number to which 3 incoming messages of the remote phone will be forwarded.

Press <4 OK>.

To delete data on the remote phone,

From the Access remote phone screen, select 1 Delete user data.

Press <2 Yes>.A call log list, contacts, all messages, and data in My files of the remote phone will be deleted.

To get contact information of the remote phone,

From the Access remote phone screen, select 1 Get contact.

Select 2 Get group contacts or Get contact.To get all contact information, select Get all contacts.

Enter the group or contact name on the remote phone 3 and press <OK>.

To get location information,

From the Access remote phone screen, select Get location information.

An SMS message that contains the location information •will come in.

To change the password for the mobile tracker, select Change mobile tracker password.

Enter textYour phone is equipped with a QWERTY keyboard to support easy and quick text input. You can enter text as you would when using a computer’s keyboard.

Press appropriate alphanumeric keys to enter characters, numbers, and symbols.

Answer a callWhen a call comes in, press [1 ].

When the phone is ringing, press the Volume key to adjust the volume, or press and hold the Volume key to mute the ringtone.

To end the call, press [2 ].

Reject a callWhen a call comes in, press [ ]. The caller will hear a busy tone.

You can set up a list of numbers to reject incoming •calls automatically. ► p. 28You can send a message when you reject •incoming calls. In Menu mode, select Settings → Call → All calls →Reject call with message.

Call an international numberIn Idle mode, press and hold [1 0] or [W] to insert the international prefix.

CallingLearn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options available during a call or customising and using call-related features.

› Make and answer a callMake a call

In Idle mode, enter an area code and a phone number.1 Press [2 ] to dial the number.

To end the call, press [3 ].Use the phonebook to save numbers you dial •frequently. ► p. 50To quickly access the call log to redial the numbers •you dialled recently, press [ ].

In noisy environments, you may have difficulty hearing some calls while using the speakerphone feature. For better audio performance, use the normal phone mode.

To turn on Whisper mode so that the other party can •hear you well even if you speak quietly, press <Options> → Whisper mode on.To turn off the microphone so that the other party •cannot hear you, press <Options> → Mute.To use some applications, press <• Options> →Applications.To use a variety of additional services offered by your •service provider, if this service is supported by your UIM card, press <Options> → UTK.To send DTMF (Dual tone multifrequency) tones as a •group, press <Options> →Send DTMF. DTMF tones are the tones used in phones for tone dialling, sounding when you press the number keys.To set the DTMF tone length, press <• Options> →DTMF length.

Enter the complete number you want to dial (country 2 code, area code and phone number), and then press [ ] to dial the number.

You can change to another prefix. In Menu mode, select Settings → Call → All calls → Int'l call prefix.

› Use the headsetBy plugging the supplied headset into the multifunction jack, you can make and answer calls:

To redial the last call, press and hold the headset button.•To answer a call, press and hold the headset button.•To end a call, press the headset button.•

› Use options during a voice callYou can use the following options while a voice call is in progress:

To adjust the voice volume, press the Volume key.•To activate the speakerphone feature, press the Confirm •key → Yes.

Scroll to the missed call you want to dial.2 Press [3 ] to dial.

› Use additional featuresYou can use various other call-related features, such as auto rejection, or call diverting or call lock.

Set auto rejectionUse auto rejection to reject calls from certain numbers automatically. To activate auto rejection and set up the reject list,

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Call →All calls → Auto reject.

Press <2 Change> to select On to activate auto rejection.

Select 3 Reject list.

Press <4 Options> →Create.

To use the enhanced privacy mode, press <• Options> → Voice privacy.To dial a second call, dial a new number.•To answer a second call, press [• ] when a call waiting tone sounds. The first call is automatically placed on hold. You must subscribe to the call waiting service to use this feature.To switch between the two calls, press [• ].To end the calls, press [• ].To make a three-way call, make a second call and press •[ ] when connected to the second party. You must subscribe to the multiparty call service to use this feature.

› View and dial missed callsYour phone will display calls you have missed on the display.

Press <1 View>.

You can change the delay time before fake calls. In Menu mode, select Settings → Call → Fake call → Fake call timer.

You can make fake calls appear more realistic by playing back a recorded voice. To record a voice,

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Call → Fake call → Fake call voice.

Scroll to 2 Fake call voice.

Press3 <Edit>.

Press <4 Record> to start recording.

Speak into the microphone.5 When you are finished, press <6 Stop>.

Press the Confirm key.7

Enter a number to reject.5 Select 6 Match criteria and select an option (if necessary).

Press the Confirm key.7 Repeat steps 4-7 to add more numbers.8 Press <9 Options> →Save.

Press <10 Save>.

Make a fake callYou can simulate incoming calls when you want to get out of meetings or unwanted conversations.

To activate the fake call feature, in Menu mode, select Settings →Call →Fake call →Fake call hot key.

To make a fake call, press the Navigation key down 4 times with the keys locked. A fake call comes in after a specified length of time.

Press <4 Call>.

Follow the instructions from your service provider.5 Set call lockCall lock is a network feature to restrict certain types of calls or to prevent others from making calls with your phone.

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Call → Voice call → Call lock.

Select a call type to restrict 2 → On.

Enter a call lock password and press <3 OK>.

Set call waitingCall waiting is a network feature to alert you of an incoming call while you are on a previous call. This feature is available only for voice calls.

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Call → Voice call → Call waiting.

You can also make fake calls appear more realistic by showing a caller's name or number.

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Call → Fake call.

Enter a name and scroll down.2 Enter a number and select 3 Save.

Set call divertingCall diverting is a network feature to send incoming calls to another number that you specify. You can set this feature separately for several conditions when you are not able to answer calls, such as when you are already on the phone or when you are outside of the service area.

In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Call → Voice call → Call diverting.

Select a condition 2 →Enable.

Select an option and enter a number to forward to.3

You do not need to line up the devices to beam information with Bluetooth. If the devices are within range of one another, you can exchange information between them even if they are located in different rooms.
