I achieved my goal of obtaining at least 10 contacts while working at Integer. I actually made more than 10, but I was I decided to only rely on the top 10 since I am closet to these contacts.
I completed my objective of contributed 10 items to my department. I contributed the 8 press releases and 2 nomination forms.
This was one of the first objectives that was a success. I learned how to create a informative press release within the first two weeks of work. My supervisor also complemented me on my work.

  • 7. Every week during the summer I gave my supervisor a report detailing weekly media mentions of The Integer Group as well as the companys largest client, MillerCoors. This was helpful because I learned how to use Google Alerts and put together a report, something most Public Relations firms will do. Although the company didnt use these reports it was a helpful tool when we created a publicity report for the Integer Group. It was also a good exercise for me so that I learned a valuable Public Relations skill as well as learning more about the company I was working for.

  • 9. Writing a Press Release
This was something I expected out of my internship and was very excited to learn. I learned the format for Press Releases and was able to write 8 Press Releases myself. My supervisor asked me to write releases on topics like promotions, the companys Eco-Fair, and awards the company received. By writing so many releases I was able to further develop my writing skills and provide valuable works to the company. Throughout the summer my supervisor noticed my improved writing and gave me harder, more important writing assignments. By working on Press Release projects I also learned how to communicate with people I didnt know and how to work around uncooperative co-workers.

  • 11. Pitching a Press Release
I really enjoyed pitching releases to publications because it is very exciting seeing your story in print. I was able to gain placements in local publications such as the Denver Post and the Denver Business Journal. National publications also picked up some of my stories, journals like Adweek, Advertising Age, Brandweek and Businessweek are a few of the publications who picked up releases I pitched to them. I learned how to write professionally and persuasively and how to successfully communicate with the media. I also learned when to pitch press releases, and how to space them throughout the week so that the stories have the best chance for placement.

    To: Hi Tim,
The Integer Group and M/A/R/C Research are conducting a yearlong shopper experience study to measure shopping opinions and behaviors. The study will gather responses that will be published in a monthly newsletter called The Checkout, which will include updated data in every issue. The Checkout will also publish any insights or trends that are uncovered during the span of the survey. I have attached the most recent issue for your convenience. I hope you find this data interesting and want to share the results of our study with your readers by publishing updated survey information (it could be shown graphically every month/bi-monthly, a feature story or column, or however you see fit). Please review the news release below to see the most recent data findings. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
    Thank you!
  • 13. This was the first time the Integer Denver office created a publicity report. I worked with my supervisor and someone from the Des Moines office to put together this report. This was incredibly difficult because a lot of the variables were subjective. It also had many variables making the report hard to create as well as keep every variable consistent. But I learned a lot while doing this project. I learned more about Excel and I learned the importance of Public Relations to a company. We were able to find over $223,000 in free publicity for 2009 and it was great knowing that I personally added $93,000 to that number.

  • 15. Nominations for Award Shows
This was a difficult task. We had a very tight deadline on these nominations and there was a lot of work to be done. We were nominating people in three categories. Each category required a nomination summary and two letters of recommendation. I had to write all of these pieces about people I didnt know. The letters of recommendation were actually written by me, but we placed important names on them. This truly tested my writing ability and my ability to embellish. I also had to work with others in order to get the necessary information to write these pieces, which proved to be difficult. Thankfully, I ended up finishing the pieces within the time allotted, but I learned how to provide excellent work under pressure.
  • 16. Nomination for the AdColor Awards. We did three entries, each includes a summary and two letters of recommendation
  • 17. Event Planning/Execution
During my time at Integer I helped with 4 events. I didnt do a lot of actual planning although I did help with the brainstorm for the summer event. Most of my help was required for set up and running the event. I helped make signs, hang up signs, check people in and make sure the event ran smoothly. These events helped me appreciate and acquire knowledge of how much work is actually required and how many things you have to plan in order for the event to run correctly. I also really enjoyed these events because I got to get to know a lot of people. This was fun and I also got the opportunity to network. I met people from KU as well as important people in the company.
