Imports and successful substitutionEggs• Previous Ah Liki egg imports were 1.2 – 1.3 million eggs per year (95% national

consumption)

• Now 100% FRESH, locally farmed eggs since 2014

• Tanumapua Sun choice eggs started with 6, 000 chicks in 2011, now

70, 000 – 80, 000 producing 45, 000 eggs per day.

• Provides local jobs, profits are retained on island, leads to new product development through more fertiliser for crops

Cabbages• In the past, 200 tonnes of cabbages imported annually, now down to 50 tonnes.

Exporting to Develop Agriculture

Selling staple crops for export provides farmers with profit to venture into high risk/high return agriculture.

Currently exporting taro, soon to be exporting bananas (SACEP).

Potential to export pineapple, hawaiian papaya and more.

Training farmers in growing export quality produce develops skills ie. Post harvest practices, increased quantity and quality

Tanumapua Farm

Current and developing• Hydroponics – tomatoes, capsicum and lettuce

• SACEP – carrots and onions

• Tropical fruits – Cavendish banana, Hawaiian papaya, Samoan pineapple and Tahitian limes

• Vegetables – Cabbage, European eggplant, Pak choi, corn, radish and chilli.
