Apology
Last week as we celebrated P&C day I put the call out for a volunteer for the
school festival secretary. I am sorry to say this position has now been filled.
This means we no longer have any formal or executive positions available
for volunteers. I apologise that we can not provide everyone with the unique
opportunity to give back to the school community, but I am confident that
next year some of these positions will become available again. If you are still
eager to volunteer there are still many other opportunities to support your
school on a casual basis.
ICT Voluntary Contribution
My sincere thanks to all of the families who have supported the ICT
voluntary contribution. After my recent request we have been inundated with
support. This will make a big difference to our students. Some of this money
has now been spent providing 15 laptops for the Year 6 students who have
been using computers that average 8 years old. They now have greater
access to digital technologies to expand their learning opportunities. This
also has the flow on effect of allowing other classes greater access to our
other computer lab.
Under 8’s Day
Our 2017 Under 8’s day will be held next Friday 26 May, 2017 between
10:30am—12:30pm. This is an event to celebrate childhood and this year
the theme is Learning Through Play. Each Prep—Year 3 class will organise
an activity to be enjoyed by all such as dancing, obstacle course, face
painting, and lots of craft. We will also have a fire truck and police car
onsite. Parents and grandparents are invited to enjoy this celebration with
their children. In previous years a parent has been asked to take two or
three children around to the various activities. Each child carries an Under
8’s passport which is stamped to show that activities have been completed.
If you are able to join us for this event, please email your class teacher and
let them know.
Class Parent Rep Meeting
Yes, sadly all of these positions have also been filled by wonderful
volunteers, but we still want to hear from you. Next week on Wednesday
morning we will be having the Term Two Class Parent Rep forum. This is a
great chance for me to hear from parents, take on board feedback and
answer questions. As always, no question is off limits. You can send in your
feedback or question to the parent rep of your class and it can be tabled
anonymously. We are all about transparency and open lines of
communication, so let us know if there is something you would like added to
the agenda. So far we will be discussing:

Under 8’s Day Sausage Sizzle
Friday 26 May
The P1 Committee will be again holding their annual Sausage Sizzle
in conjunction with Under 8’s Day this year. Parents of under 8’s
students are able to purchase the sausages in one of two ways.
If you are spending Under 8’s Day with your child, you and your
child/ren can purchase a sausage sizzle on the day from the
tuckshop and eat it together. Siblings from older classes are also
able to purchase the sausages.
Alternatively you can purchase a sausage sizzle through
Flexischools and it will be delivered to your child’s classroom at
12.30pm on the day for their lunch. Sausages purchased this
way cannot be made available any earlier than 12:30pm.
We will be selling sausages from $2.50 each and a variety of
poppers for $1.50.
See you there!!
P1 Committee
Come and join the fun.
Friday 26 May 10:30 am — 12:30 pm
During this time, the areas around the Prep—Year 1 soccer field
and the nearby undercover areas will be filled with art and craft,
games and activities. Mums and Dads and grandparents are
invited to come to school and participate with their children.
Each child will receive a passport for the event on which they can
record the various activities they have completed. Mums, Dads and
grandparents are invited to take a small group of children around
and enjoy the day.
If you are able to attend, please contact your class teacher and let
them know. Children are able to wear sun safe free dress for this
event.
A sausage sizzle is also held to help raise money for our P1
Committee.
Should you wish to take your child home at the end of the Under 8’s
Day, you will need to return to the office and sign your child out.
We look forward to seeing you at our Under 8’s day celebration.

When you buy an Entertainment Membership from us, you'll receive
hundreds of valuable offers for everything you love to do, and help
our fundraising at the same time! We still have plenty of books
available or you can order a digital membership. Our fundraising
goal is to reach $1,000 and we are almost half way so please share
with your friends and family. Click here to order your copy.
Last week some of our Year 1 and Year 2 students were fortunate
enough to have a special guest, Mr Shea, join their classes to teach
them about robots. They learnt about the functions of robots and
how they can be used to solve problems. They learnt how robots
used senses to help guide them, how they make sounds and how
they move. Students also discussed how the design and coding of
robots can be used in the workplace. They were blown away as they
learnt about some of the ways robots are used, especially in
dangerous situations. Students wondered what sorts of jobs might
be available for them in the future to work with robots. At the end of
their session the students were lucky enough to join in some fun
with robot battles, where the robots used their senses detect other
robots and the boundary lines to push each other out of a circle.
This was a great way for our students to continue to build their
curiosity and learn more about digital technologies.

We are looking at repurposing some tree
stumps that were donated to OSHC from
The Ryan Family – thank you for your
kind donation.
We are going to use some of these for
our seating area in our garden and
some will be sliced to create a number
of circles so we can use these as
blackboards.
We are also on the lookout for some split hardwood for our pizza
oven so if you have any that you no longer need we would love to
take it off your hands.
Thank you for our feedback about our excursions to the local shops,
park and other places in the village. We really appreciate your input
into our program and we will take these thoughts with us to further
plan for our exciting new journey….watch this space.
Friendly reminder:
When paying fees to OSHC we ask that you please write your
child’s full name as the reference as we are unable to allocate
these payments to any particular family if we do not have all the
