Red Shield Appeal is an annual event launched by Salvation Army. Over the two days 28th and 29th this month there would be more than 100,000 volunteers holding donation boxes knocking on household doors and standing at crossroads and along streets with a view to soliciting people offering in support of people in needs all over Australia. This is not just a campaign of donation but also serves as a reminder for us to act as good neighbours to the poor.

The Bible teaches us a lot about unconditional giving to people in crisis; in Christian terms this is grace. To become a person who can give is a testimony of blessing as it is the abundant provision from God that can make us in a position to give.

We have different roles to play in our society. Say we need to pay tax to sustain our social services; shortly we even need to pay carbon tax to sustain global resources for our future generations. Most Chinese need to take on the responsibility to take care of living of their former generation and next generation, as well as to take care of their own life after retirement through superannuation scheme. The Red Shield Appeal on the other hand remind us of this additional responsibility to pass on our blessing to those in the community who are much underprivileged than us.

The Salvation Army requires massive manpower in the Red Shield Appeal. Readers who want to become a vessel in blessing others please get in touch with their local offices. The Salvation Army has been a highly regarded organisation in Australia. All of the Salvation Officers are walking their lives with their Christian faith of serving people first.

The Appeal last year hit the $77,116,215 mark in bringing on much needed love and care to the society. We hope more people can offer more this year in bringing on more grace to the world.
