Understanding SydneyWho she is...

What she loves...

What she values...

Sydney is a fashionable, current, and intelligently sexy woman aged 35-50. She is a social individual, highly involved in her community. She values her relationships, and is the fashion leader in her group of friends - every-one comes to her for fashion advice. She is always well put together, and loves to wear flattering clothing that is age appropriate.

Sydney loves fashion she cannot find anywhere else. Although she is current, she is not very fashion-savvy, and trusts the store associates to dress her head-to-toe and make her feel special. She loves the relationships that the associates develop with her, and considers them close friends.

Outfits that can be put together to suit her personal style, shape and life. She is willing to pay for unique, couture-like pieces that she feels cannot be found anywhere else.

ProjectINSPIRATION The inspiration for my project originated from my favorite sport,

crew. From the sleek lines of the shells and oars, vintage graphic posters came into the mix. As for fashion inspiration, I wanted to bring the femininity of backless tops into my athletic designs.

01

02

ProjectIDEATION I wanted the performance wear to be unique from what is current by

keeping it functional, but with more fashion details. I wanted the woman to feel confident and unique in her outfit; something that she can go meet friends for lunch in after a workout and not feel out of place. The outfits are functional, yet still keep a street-wear vibe.

FinalOUTFIT The final outfit stays with the concept of keeping activewear more

feminine and sexy than competitors. This will make her feel confident in her choice, both in a workout environment and out.

ThesisPROJECT

Samantha Hansen

The following is the Senior Thesis, culminating with a final collection consisting of 4-8 pieces based on the original inspira-tion, which are all designed, patterned and constructed by the designer.

The concept is based on the sea. It takes interest in the contrast between the structure and flow within, i.e. how an anenome is attached to something so permanent and solid as a rock or coral, but it still flows beautifully and listlessly along with the tide. Structure and flow is also visible in the fish: they have a solid, functional body, contrasted with the flow of their beautiful fins and tails that seem to be more for beauty above all else.
