Education and Experience My passion and commitment for human rights for ALL
sterns from my lived experiences as well as my education and interests. I am the proud
single-parent of two teenagers, a member of the LGBTQ community, and was raised in an
Interracial, lnterrellgious family (Egyptian Muslim father and Caucasian American Catholic
mother). Among our numerous social justice activities, my children and I testified at the
Nevada State Legislature in 2013 for Marriage Equality, volunteered for the 2016
presidential campaign, and routinely participate in peaceful marches.
As the Professional Learning Director for Washoe County School District since Fall 2012, I
lead cross-departmental committees, serve on the Equity Task Force, and facilitate a wide
variety of professional learning sessions focused on culturally responsive practice. I am a
co-founder and coordinator of Nevada Leads, the principal preparation collaborative
between WCSD and the UNR, where I've been an adjunct professor since 2013. Prior to
WCSD, I served as a principal in Las Vegas for 10 years, culminating with the honor of
opening Triggs Elementary in 2010. During my years in Southern Nevada, I was also
adjunct faculty In Educational Leadership at UNLV. I co-authored Latinas In the Workplace:
An Emerging Leadership Force (Stylus, 2011) . I earned both my doctorate and master's
degrees in Educational Leadership from UNLV, my teaching credential from CSU Fresno, and
my undergraduate degree from UC Irvine.
Gandhi's often-cited quote, "Be the change that you wish to see in the world," describes my
approach to standing for human rights. I strive to live courageously and seek positions
where I can affect positive change, rather than simply talking about it. This is not always
easy nor popular; however, it is necessary because all human life is valuable and deserving
of dignity and respect. As an educator, author, leader, and parent, I look forward to
continuing this work in our diverse and wonderful Reno community.

The City Council for the City of Reno will be considering on a future posted agenda your appointment to a board, commission or other public body for the City of Reno. Pursuant to NRS 241.033(1), in order to consider the professional competence of an applicant, notice need be provided to that person of the time and place of the meeting in compliance with such statutory provisions.
By signing below, it is confirmed that I have been provided notice of the meeting at which my appointment will be considered by City Council. Further, I knowingly and voluntarily am waiving my rights to all written notice requirements under NRS 241.033(1) pertaining to my qualifications, competence, and character to hold this appointment and consent to the evaluation of my character and competence by the Reno City Council in a public meeting.
