I am writing to urge you to press for the new directive on animal experiments to uphold the will of the European Parliament, as expressed in Written Declaration 40/2007 (433 signatures),which called for an urgent end to the use of apes and wild-caughtprimates, and a timetable for replacing the use of all primates in scientific experiments with alternatives. 80% of Europeancitizens have stated that they find experiments on primates to be “not acceptable” (EC survey).
Please ask for the wording of the new directive to includeprovisions to end the use of apes and wild-caught primates, without any exemptions. Also ask for the directive to include a thematic, bi-annual review of the use of primates, to discussspecific measures, priorities, targets or timetables to replace the use of primates in specific areas of research and testing.

Le scrivo per chiederLe il Suo impegno affinchè la nuova direttiva sulla sperimentazone animale rispetti il volere del Parlamento Europeo, così come espresso dalla Dichiarazione Scritta 40/2007 (433 firme), la quale chiedeva un divieto ur-gente di uso delle grandi scimmie e di tutti i primati catturati in natura, e un piano per la sostituzione di tutti i primati negli esperimenti con metodi scientifici senza animali. L’80% dei cittadini europei ha dichiarato di ritenere gli esperi-menti sui primati “non accettabili” (sondaggio EC).
La prego di impegnarsi per includere nella nuova direttiva il divieto di uso delle grandi scimmie e dei primati catturati in natura, senza alcuna eccezione, nonché l’obbligo di una re-visione biannuale dell’uso dei primati al fine di sostituirli, in tutte le aree in cui ancora sono usati, con metodi scientifici senza animali.
