SAL Naonal Commander Jeff C. Frain visits the Dodge House along with (from le to
right) John Waite, Stephen England, Henry Cleveland and Harold Trombley.
Detachment Commander From the Commander,
I would like to thank the Detachment of Vermont as well as the rest of the Vermont Legion
Family for the tremendous support we felt as we went through our elec#ons and installa-
#ons at Conven#on this past weekend. In par#cular, I was thrilled to have several of my
children there to watch my wife “cap” me. I cannot do what I do without their support and
encouragement.
Our Leadership Team was very privileged to have had our Na#onal Commander, Jeff Frain
from Arizona present. He commented how impressed he was with what we accomplish as
a smaller state, and our sense of Family is very apparent. We took him to The Veterans
Place in Northfield and the Dodge House in Rutland. He made an incredible personal dona-
#on to the Dodge House and he stated he truly sensed the “passion” that is evident at
these facili#es as they care for the Veteran residents that are being helped there.
I want to congratulate all of the members who stepped up to take a Detachment Officer
posi#on. We have really worked hard the last few years to build a Team and it is obvious
that this a6tude is con#nuing. Thank you all. Everyone brings their individual talents and
ideas to the table and it all helps us to realize our goals.
I have the Membership Cards and Rosters and am working with our Area, District, and
County Commanders as well as our Officers to get these to the Squadrons. I can be con-
tacted at 802-477-3739 or [email protected] and we will arrange to get these to
your Squadrons as quickly as possible.
We are very close to our 100% Membership Target so keep making those calls, talking to
members who have not renewed, or whatever means will work to get these in. We would
love to go to Na#onal Conven#on in August at 100%! Membership is everyone’s job and
we have worked as a Team all year and that has shown as we hit all our Na#onal Targets
before they were due!
Congratula#ons to the 18 Squadrons who have hit their 100%, including #58 that reached
today! You show what Teamwork can achieve.
We will be contac#ng any Squadron who has not sent in their End of Year Report, since we
need these in order to have our Consolidated Reports ready to send to Na#onal.
In addi#on, we need all the Directory pages and Officer Rosters. We want to have the Direc-
tory available for our DEC on July 15 so that our Officers can distribute to the Squadrons.
Thank you for taking care of this as soon as possible.
When we visited with Commander Jeff Frain, we became aware the Dodge House flagpole
was damaged in a windstorm and needs to be replaced. We voted during the DEC mee#ng
at Conven#on to contribute $500.00 from funds remaining from the Golf Tournament. The
projected cost will be in the neighborhood of $3,500 and, once the new pole one it is pur-
chased, we will arrangement of a work party to install. Members are working on pricing, but
if any Squadron wants to donate to this it would be greatly appreciated. We know how much
our help means to the Dodge House folks.
We voted at the Regular Mee#ng at Conven#on to con#nue the Veterans Apprecia#on GiI
Card project as well. This will be part of our Detachment Programs, but not a Commanders
Project as when it was started. We are checking to see if Community Na#onal Bank will con-
#nue to work with us, so any Squadron who wishes to par#cipate should check before send-
ing any money. We will have more informa#on as soon as it is available.
Our Detachment DEC will be held on July 15 at Abel Mountain Campground in Randolph, VT.
I will announce my Commander’s Project aIer that mee#ng. There will be more informa#on
coming to the Squadrons from that mee#ng including our Visita#on schedule.
We are looking forward to a great year together as we serve the Veterans, their Families,
and our Communi#es. Thank you all for the tremendous work you all do in your Posts and
Squadrons. You should be proud to call yourselves Sons of the American Legion.
In Honor of All Veterans,
Steve England

To All SAL members:
• I am again including the Squadron Roster Form for the remaining Squadrons to provide for this year’s
Directory. This is still needed from Squadrons #7, #21, #23, #27, #36, #39, #47, #49, #55, #58, #59, #60,
and #87. Try to remember to gather emails with the other contact information from those you have elect-
ed at your next meeting so we can continue to get more information to these members.
• Our newest 2017 membership report came out today and I am including as part of the newsletter. It
should be noted all the hard work that you have done to be only 74 members away from reach 100%.
For help in getting your membership, please reach out to Sr. Vice Commander David Hendee.
• The 2018 Membership Cards are in! These were delivered after Convention, so arrangements are being
made from our Team to deliver to each Squadron. 2018 Membership is due on October 20th, 2017.

mation below. Please respond as soon as possible so an applicant can be approved at DEC on July 15.

your Northern Area Commander Jeremy Revell, Southern Area Commander Andy Stowell, or Squadron

To all my Sons of The American Legion Family, I would like to
thank you for the great support that you have given me in our two
years, which we have been working together. Our Detachment
team has made and surpassed all the challenges that were in front
of us. It has been an honor and privilege to be your Detachment
Commander words cannot show how proud I am of you all.
I want to thank my dad for his service to our country. Without his
service I would not have been able to be a part of such a great or-
ganization.
Always remember to have fun in the Sons and Veterans are our Heroes. Past Detachment Commander Henry Cleveland
