ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
You are cordially invited to celebrate your
25th & 50th Wedding Anniversary with the
Church of Metuchen and renew your mar-
riage vows with Bishop James F. Checchio
at a special Evening Prayer Service at the
Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi in Metuchen on Sunday,
October 27, 4pm. Registration is required. Please register
online at diometuchen.org/silver-and-gold. If you are un-
able to access a computer, please contact your parish sec-
retary or the Family Life Office at 732.562.1543 or am-

tober 11. Although no fee is required, in the past many Ju-

Gratitude may be made online or calling 732.562.1543.
The St. Thomas the Apostle Pipe Organ
was installed in 1986.
After 33 years of service, our pipe organ is in desperate
need of repair, renovation, restoration...and your help!
The Facts
* The pipe organ is played at over 400 Masses & numer-
Ours rehearsal each year.
* It serves the Parish on a weekly basis, school
liturgies, weddings, funerals and other special functions.
* The pipe organ accompanies a multitude of choirs, can-
tors and instrumentalists.
* There are over 1,000 pipes, 12 voices, 12 ranks, and 2
Manuals (keyboards).
The Issues
In the 1980s, when our organ was custom built, a change
in zinc manufacturing affected the pipe organ industry,
resulting in weakened metal pipes. As a result, MANY of
our pipes need to be replaced and many others repaired. 33
years of dust and incense necessitates the removal and
cleaning of all pipes. The original organ design allowed
for pipe work that was never installed. As a result, the
organ has no Principal Pedal stop and is missing other
stops that would be standard in an instrument serving any
parish. The pedalboard is completely worn from use. The
electrical system is in need of modernization, as technolo-
gy has vastly changed over the last 33 years.
The Plan
• The Console will be completely rebuilt or exchanged,
upgraded, and modernized.
• The Wind chests and bellows will be completely re-
leathered, providing 30-40 years of reliable service.
• The pipework and all related parts will be completely
cleaned, and all compromised internal zinc pipes repaired
or replaced.
• The Trumpet and Crumhorn pipes will be completely
revoiced and rescaled to correct the physical failure of the
original zinc pipework, providing vastly-improved tonal
resources and superior tuning stability.
• New pipe racking and supports will be put in place to
ensure stability.
• To replace the organ in its entirety, would be over
$500,000, so we want to restore it for $150,000 for
many future generations.
Contributions are greatly accepted! Please make checks
payable to St. Thomas Church, and in the memo section
write Pipe Organ Restoration.
