The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ May 29, 2016

From the Desk of Fr. Bismarck MASS INTENTIONS

BASKETBALL CAMP

Rutgers University is taking applications for their Basketball Camp for

boys and girls ages 6-17. Our parish will be offering full

scholarships for one week for 2 students. Students must submit a

short essay on “Why God is important in my life, my family, and my

country.” Essays must be submitted by May 31 to Fr. Bismarck.

The Summit of Our Faith The Most Holy Eucharist is the lifeblood of the Church. In it the whole spiritual wealth of the Church is contained, for the Eucharist is the source and summit of the whole Christian life. Jesus’ gift to the Church on the night before He died was the gifts not of his parables or his blessings but of his very own self under the form of bread and wine. In the Eucharist, we have Jesus Himself, body and blood, soul and divinity. When we receive Holy Communion, we have a closer contact with Jesus than was possible to anybody during His earthly life. No wonder he said to Thomas “blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” In the Eucharist, the actual dis-tance between us and Christ vanishes. We become one with him and with one another. As wonderful and as beautiful the gift of the Holy Eucharist is, and what it means for us Catholics, why then so many of us still find it so hard to get up to go to Mass. Why is Mass a chore. Why has the Eucharistic Celebration become second-ary in many families today? Why does my heart not burn with the desire to be with the one who loves me and has giv-en himself up for my salvation and made me free? Why do I look at my watch when Mass is longer than usual or why does my mind wonder away from the Wonder taking place in front of me? And why do many of us leave the Eucharistic celebration before it even ends? My friends, we need to fall in love with the Eucharist again. We need to make it our priority again. We need to reflect in its meaning, its importance its value in our lives, then the Eucharist will be the Summit of our Faith.

MOMENTS OF MERCY

MAY 2016

The prayers we offer have a great impact on our lives and the lives of those around us. In some situations, the most we can do for someone is to pray for them, especially if they live far away from us. However, prayer is by no means the least of what we do. It is powerful and effective! One way we can pray for those in need is by praying with the Blessed Virgin Mary and asking her to pray for us (MV, no. 24). There are many prayers that are part of the Church's tradition that help us pray with Mary. In living out God's mercy this month, every time you pray one of these prayers, pray it with a particular intention of compassionate love and mercy for a particular person or situa-tion in your life or for a troubled area of your community.

P. Bismarck
