December 9, 2018 2nd Sunday of Advent SECOND COLLECTION TODAY The second collection today is for the Retirement Fund for Religious. Please be generous. SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND The second collection next weekend is for St. Patrick’s Building Maintenance Fund. Please be generous. BISHOP’S REFLECTION Dear Brothers and Sisters, We begin a new Liturgical Year with the “season of expectation,” Advent. The four weeks of Advent is a time for us to slow down and to take time to reflect upon the season as we prepare for the Great Feast of Christmas. As we prepare, and make straight the way for the coming of the Lord, let us ponder the role of Our Lady during this month of December. On December 8, we acknowledge her Immaculate Conception. On December 12, we call to mind her heavenly visit to St. Juan Diego as Our Lady of Guadalupe on the hill of Tepeyac. Mary, whom God graced from Original Sin, and who became the Mother of the long-awaited Messiah, is truly for us, “Our Lady of Advent.” Her life consisted of a “longing-desire” for the coming of the Lord. The Immaculate Heart of Our Lady pondered and patiently waited for the coming of “the Christ.” Let us ask Our Lady, the Immaculate Conception, to intercede for us this Advent Season. Let us prepare our hearts for the “Second” Coming of Jesus with a longing, and a desire, to grow in holiness. During Advent, we can grow in holiness by setting aside quiet time for: prayer; spiritual reading; Advent reflections and devotionals. Also, we can plan to go to Confession; attend daily Mass; and do charitable works of mercy. During this season of preparation, let us respond to Our Lady’s call “to be sent” as was St. Juan Diego. He humbly and obediently delivered the good news of “the Tepeyac event.” The message sent, and the image imprinted on the tilma, would find a resting place in the minds and hearts of a conquered people. The revelation would ignite a “fire of evangelization.” May we, during this Advent Season, be sent as missionary disciples to announce the “good news” of the glorious Coming of the Lord. May Our Lady of Advent, once again, ignite a fire of evangelization to lead us out of the darkness of sin into the marvelous light and Divine Presence of her Son, Jesus! Wishing you a blessed and grace-filled Season of Advent! Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus! Our Lady, the Immaculate Conception, pray for us. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us. Our Lady, Star of the New Evangelization, pray for us. Bishop Myron J. Cotta PREGNANCY HELP CENTER CHRISTMAS TREE This Christmas, we once again honor Our Little King by bringing gifts to mothers in need and their little ones. A little tree will be in the back of the church with their needs. Thank you to all for your kindness and generosity in helping bring joy and love to these mothers. EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST NEEDED!!! We are in need of Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist for all masses. Please find it in your heart to volunteer. For more information, please call Deacon Tom Ciccarelli at 838-2133. CCD CHRISTMAS PLAY and LEARN ABOUT “THE MASS” Please join us for our Annual Christmas play on Sunday, December 16th at 2:00PM in the Parish hall. Also, all CCD parents are invited to learn about “The Mass” by Bishop Robert Barron on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00PM in the parish hall, This program helps fulfill the parent requirement. ST VINCENT DE PAUL All Parishioners are invited to St. Vincent de Paul’s meeting on Tuesday, December 11th at 7:00PM in Room 10. Join us and learn what charitable works are being done in our parish. Looking for new members.

ADORATION NEEDS YOU! ADORERS NEEDED! St. Peter Julian Eymard writes: “Every time we come into the presence of the Eucharist we may say: This precious Testament cost Jesus Christ His life.” Let us honor Our Lord and Savior in the Blessed Sacrament for His sufferings and death on the cross for our sins-an act of complete annihilation and boundless love.— The following hours are available: Sunday: 8:00AM, 1:00PM, 3:00PM; Monday: 3:00PM, 5:00PM; Tuesday: 11:00AM, 6:00PM; Thursday: 5:00PM. Please call Teresa at 599-8451. JOIN THE ADULT CHOIR The beautiful season of Advent and Christmas is fast approaching. Say “YES” to God by praising Him in song with the talent He has given you by joining the choir! The Sacred Music of the Catholic Church is one of the greatest treasures of all time. Liturgical and Sacred Music fills your heart and soul with meaning and feeling mere words cannot express. It enhances your prayer. St. Paul in Collossians 3:16 writes: “Let the Word of God dwell in you richely…, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in you hearts go God.” St. Augustine says—”He who sings prayes twice.” St. Patrick’s Adult Choir meets Wednesday 6:30-8:00PM in the Music Ministry Room—You are invited! Ages 16 and up. TIME TO HEAL Please pray for the following people who are ill: Joni Christensen, Joe Brum, Cindy Largent.
