Dear Friends in Christ,

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Blessed Trinity, the revealed mystery that there are three persons (Father, Son and the Holy Spirit) in one God. These persons, not to be confused with people, though distinct, are however equal. Even though the word Trinity is not in the Bible it is how God is revealed in the scriptures. At baptism God invites and initiates each of us into the loving relationship of the Trinity. Each of the sacraments deepens that relationship in their unique ways. Through the grace

that we receive in the sacraments, such as in the Eucharist today, or when we remember to sign ourselves with the Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit, etc., we reignite that relationship. Indeed on our death bed and at our funeral the priest still signs us with the power of the Trinity. This power that was with God and is God, the same that was with Him as wisdom from the beginning and at creation, is always with us leading us to eternal life of love and relationship with God.

Please keep our Montini children in your prayers over their last week of school before they go for their summer recess on May 31st. Each time I go to the classes I am so touched by the level of their knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic Faith. I thank the principals, teachers and parents for your numerous sacrifices and I pray that God will keep all of us safe this summer. Please remember that we do not take vacation from God. So wherever you may be, do remem-ber to look for church and to attend mass every weekend with your family. Masstimes.org may help you to locate a church near you at all times.

Next Sunday, June 3rd, will be the Solemnity of Corpus Christi (Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ), in which we celebrate our unique belief that Jesus is really present in the Eucharist with His Body, Blood, Soul, and Di-vinity. Our traditional procession with Jesus in the Eucharist, through our immediate neighborhood, will begin at the con-clusion of the 11:00AM Mass, ending at Veteran’s Park. We will ask Him to bless our parish and community. Our Parish Picnic will commence at conclusion of the procession. Please join your parish family, because the family that prays to-gether, plays together.

With Memorial Day this weekend, our parish will operate on a Summer schedule until after Labor Day as listed in the bulletin on page 5. During the summer the space for this weekly column will be used for brief moments of Church/Faith teachings. This year we will touch on a variety of subjects including Mary and Marriage. Please stay tuned. Enjoy your summer.

In Christ,

Fr. Godwin

St. Patrick Catholic Church Congratulates Tim Madden

Installation as Acolyte

Congratulations to Tim Madden who was installed an Acolyte in service to St. Pat-rick Catholic Church by Bishop David Malloy at a Mass on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the chapel of the Diocesan Administrative Office. In this role, Tim will serve the parish both within the liturgy of the Mass and outside of Mass.

What is an Acolyte you might ask? The acolyte is instituted to serve at the altar and to as-sist the priest and deacon. It is his responsibility to prepare the altar and sacred vessels.

What does an Acolyte do? He is officially an Extraordinary Minister of Communion; he may also perform other duties proper to his state; besides the priest and the deacon, the acolyte is the only person allowed to purify the sacred vessels after communion; with the pastor's permission, he may expose the Blessed Sacrament for adoration without Bene-diction; he may carry the cross during the procession to the altar and when incense is used, may incense the priest and the people.

.

Fr. Godwin, Kelly Madden, Bishop Malloy, Tim Madden

As part of the Installation Rite, Tim is handed a paten by Bishop Malloy

Prayer of Spouses for Each Other

Lord Jesus, grant that I and my spouse may have a true and understanding love for each other. Grant that we may both be filled with faith and trust. Give us the grace to live with each other in peace and harmony. May we always bear with one another’s weaknesses and grow from each other’s strengths. Help us to forgive one another’s failings and grant us patience, kindness, cheerfulness and the spirit of placing the well being of one another ahead of self.

May the love that brought us together grow and mature with each passing year. Bring us both ever closer to You through our love for each other. Let our love grow to perfection. Amen.

Vocation Corner: God Calls By Name

Our name is something so important that when God calls, he does it by our name. We are so spe-cial that we are not called in a generic or group way, but we are called individually, personally.

Our name is given by our parents because they have given us life. When we say our full name, we want to express who we are and where we come from. By saying "I am Gerardo Gomez", I am saying that my parents decided to give me that name, and that I belong to the Gomez family. And if I want to be more specific I could include my first name, and my mater-nal surname to indicate more specifically where I come from and who I am.

When I arrived in this country, Father Lavan asked me two questions: What is your name? and How do you want us to call you? The first question was easy, I told him my name is 'Manuel Gerardo Gomez Reza'; but the second question was more complicated to answer. Even though I was 26 years old, I was never asked before 'how do you want us to call you'. I an-swered I have two names and two surnames call me as you wish, or make the best combination out of them. Father Lavan answered I'm going to call you 'Manny', and from that moment on, I've been Manny.

There is something interesting and important that each culture contributes to a better understanding of what our name repre-sents. In the Hispanic culture Mom and Dad give you a name, but when you grow up friends or family give you some nick-name, or some way to identify you, that they will use for the rest of your life. In the culture of this country also Mom and Dad give you a name at birth, but when you have the use of reason you can say how you want to be called.

So, we discover, the name as something that we receive, but also as something that we decided to be, something that we embrace.

Something similar happens with our vocation, God calls us by our name and gives us a mission in life, but he respects our freedom. It is precisely in that freedom that we can choose to be what God wants from us or something different that may not lead us to happiness.

Invitation to First Fridays Concerts at Glacial Park

The Marriage, Family & Life Ministry extends an invitation to join them at the First Friday Concert at the Lost Val-ley Visitor Center Patio, Glacial Park from 7:00PM-8:30PM throughout the summer months (June-Sept.).

Join us the first Friday of each Month for an evening of music and nature. Bring chairs and a picnic dinner to enjoy the beautiful view from the Lost Valley Visitor Center patio and stay for a free concert from talented regional musi-cians. (No glass containers. In case of inclement weather, concerts are moved indoors).

The first concert of the summer is Friday, June 1st featur-ing Acoustic folk duo Belle Of The Fall who prove that musical soul mates do in fact exist. “To say that Belle of the Fall lead singer, Julia Autumn Ford possesses the voice of an angel is beyond obvious. Soft, tender and raw all at once; Julia’s vocal delivery is light as a feather yet powerful enough to knock down an entire city block with one turn of a phrase. Her partner in crime, bassist Tracy Walton rounds out Belle of the Fall’s folky, yet modern sound, described as “indie folk rock pop alternative Ameri-cana with a soul”. —Vents Magazine

The rest of the summer line-up is: July 6: The Stingrays August 3: Lara Bell September 7: Hurricane Saxophone Quartet

Free - donations to Glacial Park are appreciated. Popcorn sold on site.

Finance News Would you like to make a difference in our commu-nity but aren’t sure where to give? Every penny of your donations to St. Vincent de Paul through Give-Central or your parish Poor Box assists area fami-lies in need. Your gifts of treasure to SVdP are

used to purchase food at significant discount, which is then given to our needy neighbors. Some funds might be sent di-rectly to a utility company to avoid shut-off of services for someone in need while other funds may pay for gas or a need-ed car repair to allow one of our neighbors to get to work. Your donations allow our neighbors to feed their families, to live in dignity and to continue to be productive members of our com-munity. Won’t you consider a donation today? Proverbs 22:9 “Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.”

Parish Information Sacraments Baptism of Infants or children

under 7 years of age: You must be a registered parishioner of St. Patrick prior to scheduling a Baptism. To schedule a Baptism, please begin by calling the parish office. Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month immediately after the 11AM Mass. Please consider scheduling your child’s Baptism be-fore your child is born to ensure an opening in the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is re-quired for the parents. This is a one session class that is held on the 1st Sunday of each month after the 9AM Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born.

Sacrament of Marriage: At St. Patrick, couples planning to marry need to meet with the Pastor before a wedding date can be set. Please contact the parish office to setup an initial meeting at least 6 months prior to any requested marriage date. This initial meeting will give you an overview of the requirements for marriage and the preparation required. At least one of the couple, or their parents, must be registered parishioners for at least 6 months and be active participating members of St. Pat-rick Church in order to be married at the church. Both individuals must be at least 19 years of age.
