Reflections. . .

Dear Parishioners, As we begin a new year of Faith Formation at our parish, I would like to introduce to you our new Catechists for Confirmation and Middle School. Below are some bios telling us who they are. I am very grateful to Cathi, Susan and Jeanine for taking on the responsibility of helping form our future generation of Catholics. Jeanine Gentry has attended Saint Monica since moving to Moraga in 1999. She relocated from the Kansas City area to the Bay Area in 1997. Jeanine is married to Craig Gentry and they have two children, Brandon and Maya. She has been teaching Faith Formation since 2009. This year she is Co-coordinator of the Middle School program as well as teaching 3rd grade. Susan Gindy has been a parishioner at St. Monica since 1995 when her husband Herb and three children Sara, David and Katie moved to Moraga from the Washington metropolitan area. Susan immediately became involved in the parish community and in 1997 she was hired as an assistant to the Children and Youth staff at the parish. Most of you know, Susan worked for St. Monica as the Director of Faith Formation and Pastoral Associate until 2013 when she retired to spend more time with her family and particularly her four grandchildren. Since retirement she has been a catechist for the elementary grades and now looks forward to teaching and praying with our middle school youth. Cathi Farber is teaching the First Year Confirmation Class here at St Monica Church this year. Cathi has been a Catholic all her life. She is a native New Yorker, born on Long Island New York. Her family moved to California in 1977. She is married to Brad Farber, and has two adult children, Kelli (and husband Sean) and Charlie. In 2002 Cathi earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Management at St. Mary's College in Moraga. Her specialty was Project Management. In 2011 she earned her Masters Degree in Theological Studies at the Franciscan School of Theology in Berkeley. Her focus was on the Book of Wisdom and how we can apply it to our lives today. This will be Cathi's first time teaching this year. She is looking forward to exploring the Catholic faith with our students.

Thank you to Oliver & Company Roofing Company

who recently repaired a major water leak in our Peace Center and very kindly donated their services and labor to the parish.

Eucharistic Adoration

Adoration will be in the Church on Fridays from 1:00- 8:00 pm

Please note: On Friday, October 5, Adoration will end with Holy Hour and Benediction, beginning at 5 PM and ending at 6 PM.

Children’s Corner

Join Denver Archbishop and Learn How We Can Build a Strong Lay Apostolate Together Monday Evening, October 8th

All Catholics in the Oakland diocese are invited to learn how the Archbishop of Denver, Samuel J. Aquila, is building a strong lay apostolate movement. Pope Benedict XVI named Aquila archbishop of Denver in 2012.

Denver is considered the epicenter of evangelization in the U.S. since the 1993 World Youth Day. This free program is brought to you by Catholics at Work (C@W) and takes place on Monday evening,

October 8th at 7 pm at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Dublin.

Continuing the energy of Pope John Paul II’s powerful 1993 World Youth Day (WYD), which was held in Denver, Aquila’s goal is to encourage people to “be more than you realize. Jesus should be your rock!” This

grassroots Catholic movement throughout the entire Denver archdiocese builds upon the ongoing WYD energy. Aquila’s episcopal motto, “Do whatever He tells you,” Mary’s guidance at the wedding in Cana, is the

theme encouraging us to embrace the apostleship. Aquila is speaking in a new evening-format Catholics@Work program, Monday, Oct. 8 at St. Raymond’s parish located at 11555 Shannon Ave. in Dublin.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the program begins at 7 pm. This inspirational event is open to C@W members and to all others in the Oakland diocese community. Oakland Bishop Michael Barber will also join Archbishop

Aquila for this special engagement. There is no charge for admission but a free-will offering is greatly appreci-ated to help cover the costs. Please register beforehand online at http://www.catholicsatwork.com/ and con-sider joining Catholics at Work membership to support this inspirational speaker series. Catholics at Work is

an Oakland diocese ministry to bring inspiring Catholic speakers to our East Bay community.
