Keeping all these things in our hearts….By Sister M. Regina

Do you have questions for Father? Do you wonder about some truth of the faith? Would you like to ask Father the reason for some liturgical practice? Very soon, you will see two boxes appear at church. The one box is called “Ask Father.” You may write down any question you have and place it in the box. Although you may sign you name, you do not need to do so. Father will respond to the questions in writing in issues of the bulletin.

There will be a similar box called “Ask the Sisters.” Perhaps you also have questions for us Sisters and we are happy to respond. I would suggest that Father is the better person to respond to questions you have about the faith, but you may have other questions for us Sisters.

The “Ask Sister” box is not only for asking questions, but also for asking us to pray. Canon law, the set of laws which governs the church, explains that “the first and foremost duty of all religious is to be the contemplation of divine things and assiduous union with God in prayer” (can. 663, §1). Canon Law tells us that the primary purpose of the life of the Sister is prayer and union with God. We try to live that. Immediately after waking, we Sisters go immediately to the chapel where we spend the first 2 ½ hours of our day. Only then, after having spent a long time with Him, both in quiet and silent prayer, and in praying the Divine Office for and with the Church, do we begin our apostolic work. In a typical day, we spend about 6 hours praying together in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Prayer is very much the heart and soul of our life. We include the needs of the Saint Mary’s parishioners in our prayers every day. But perhaps you have special intentions for which you would like us to pray. We will be very happy to do so. You may write down prayer requests and place them in the “Ask the Sisters” box. __________________________________________________________________________________________________

*On Sunday, October 28th, the 5 P.M. Sunday Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be a Missa Cantata—a sung Mass—on the occasion of the Feast of Christ the King.

In his letter to all the faithful of August 21, 2018, our Bishop James V. Johnston, Jr., asked us to pray and to fast in response to the recent revelation of the most grievous sins committed by bishops and priests. Bishop Johnston said that “this is ultimately also a spiritual crisis which must be met with a spiritual response, one in which every member of the Body of Christ is needed.”

At Saint Mary’s, prayer cards are available with most fitting prayers to offer in reparation for sins and for the sanctification of priests. We encourage you to use the prayer cards and to share them with others.

On September 14th, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, there will not be a Noon Mass at Saint Mary’s, but there will be the special Mass which His Excellency asked parishes to offer for the forgiveness of sins. The Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be at 6:00 P.M.

At the conclusion of the 6 P.M., Holy Mass, there will be all-night adoration until 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, September 15th, the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. All night adoration from the 14th to the 15th of September will be particular time of grace for us to make reparation: to repair for sins by loving the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus. Praying during the night is an effective sacrifice and prayer in reparation for those sins committed at night. A sign-up sheet for adoration will be available in the South Vestibule. We ask that, during the night time, women do not come to a holy hour alone, but always in the company of at least at least one other person, for the sake of your safety.

We have just received a new shipment of Fireside Publishing’s New Catholic Answer Bibles. The only bible available with a pray along rosary
