6th Sunday of Easter - May 26, 2019 Memorial Day Weekend

Jesus gives us a “new commandment” in the Gospel today, to “love one another.” And what an ap-

propriate follow up to Deacon Tom’s homily last weekend of “what” love could or should look like in our lives?

What “love in action” are you a part of in your daily life? How do others come to “know” Christ through your

words and deeds?

I know you know that when others see what we are doing in the name of Jesus, they will be encour-

aged to go and do the same – to put “love into action.” Others will come to realize that we are in this TO-

GETHER, that is, to love and show love in our actions. EVERY ONE of us is responsible, by the grace of our

baptism, to bring the love of the Lord to the world around us.

So do this and you will live!

It’s Memorial Day on Monday – so please, join us in prayer Monday

at 9am, with your family and faith family to celebrate, honor and

remember ALL who have served and are serving our country in the

Armed Forces!

NO School and the Parish Offices are CLOSED to observe the Holi-

day!

NEXT WEEKEND on Saturday June 1st, we will welcome back to St. Mary, Newly Ordained Permanent

Deacon Matt Harley to celebrate Mass with us and preach at the 4pm Mass. We are thrilled to have him join us

in celebration of his Ordination.

Thanks for making Fr. Martin’s Ordination and Mass of Thanksgiving Weekend such a

truly memorable one for him and for our Parish Family. Fr. Martin and his family were SO EXCITED about

the weekend and ALL that we did to make his Family Celebration on Saturday evening and the Parish Family

Celebration on Sunday such a SUPERB EVENT! Thanks for coming to pray and celebrate! Fr. Martin is taking

some vacation before moving into his new assignment at St. John Vianney Parish in Mentor. His new “job” BE-

GINS on Tuesday, June 11th!

Congratulations, Fr. Martin! May God Bless You!

And THANKS everyone for your generosity in the Sunday Collection. Check out the INFO next weekend about

the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) UPDATE! Prayers and Blessings!

Mother Teresa

“Ordinary Things with

Extraordinary Love”

Teach your children to pray and pray with

them. Jesus has made Himself the Bread

of Life to give us His life, to become like

Him; so let us be holy like Jesus, full of compassion,

full of humility toward each other; for in loving one

another we love Him. How do we love? Not in big

things but in small things with great love. When the

Little Flower was canonized the Holy Father said: “She

did ordinary things with extraordinary love”

Excerpted from: Love: A Fruit Always in Season Daily Meditations by Mother

Teresa (Ignatius Press 1987)

Family Perspective

“My peace is my gift to you.” In Following the Way

of Love our bishops state: “As the primary teachers of

your children, you impart knowledge of the faith and

help them to acquire values necessary for Christian liv-

ing. Your example is the most effective way to teach.

Sometimes they listen and learn; sometimes they teach

you new ways of believing and understanding. Your

wisdom and theirs come from the same Spirit.” What

do we teach our children about peace, justice and

mercy? How do we model conflict resolution? How

do they see us dealing with stress? Do they see us act

with mercy? Let’s share the gifts of peace and mercy.

Berea Community Meal

The Berea Community Meal is held the last

Wednesday of each month. This community

activity is sponsored by a coalition of area

churches who hope to gather the needy, the

lonely and those who have a heart to serve

them. St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran

Church, located on East Bagley Road pro-

vides the location and chef for the meals.

This month a team of volunteers from St.

Mary’s Social Justice Outreach Committee

will help to set up, serve the meal and clean

up after. We hope to provide a warm wel-

come and the love of Jesus to those that at-

tend. Please keep this outreach ministry and

our volunteers in your prayers.

Music Ministry & Liturgy Notes

By Angela Kovic

Director of Music and Liturgy

SNOW IN MAY?

First off, I want to wish everyone a happy Memorial Day

for this Monday! As we enjoy time with family and friends,

let us also remember all of those who have sacrificed their

lives for the good of our country. We are eternally grateful!

For the liturgical weekend, I have selected a prelude for

9.30am mass that might not seem like it fits for the Easter

season! The hymn, ‘Now the Green Blade Rises,’ is a great

set of text painting the Resurrection of Christ like that of the

return of wheat after the bitter cold of winter. The music,

however, might make you think more of snowstorms before

anything else! Now the Green Blade Rises is set to the tune

of NOËL NOUVELET, which you are probably more fa-

miliar with the Christmas text, ‘Sing We Now of Christ-

mas.’ But that is the flexibility of hymn tunes! As long as a

text has the same number of syllables per line as the tune,

then it can be sung to that music. Be on the lookout: I have

planned something similar to this on Pentecost weekend to

sing out the Easter season with joy!

As we continue to sing this song of praise after communion

each weekend mass, I will continue to include the lyrics so

that all can join in with this hymn!

We worship and adore You,

Bowing down before You.

Songs of praises singing, Hallelujahs ringing.

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, Amen.

Choir Rehearsal Schedules: Traditional Choir rehearses on

Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. If you are interested in partici-

pating in choir, cantoring, or playing an instrument during

mass, please call or see Mrs. Angela Kovic after mass up in

the loft. The Music Ministry office number is 440.243.3877

ext 27.

St. Mary Catholic School News Corner Educating the Mind, Nurturing the Soul

Mr. Andrew J. Carner, Principal

Our Preschool students celebrated their last day of school

this week. Their teachers were very pleased and proud of

all of them. Their academic and social growth left them

awe! Mrs. Lake, Mrs. Sam, and Mrs. Habian wish all of

their students a happy and safe summer!

During the month of April, our students raised money

for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – Pennies for Pa-

tients drive. They Leukemia & Lymphoma Society works

to educate students, and inspire the next generation of can-

cer researchers. Through a classroom collection and com-

petition our entire student body collected over $2,200.00.

First place went to our Third Grade students; collecting

$259.85. These students were awarded an Olive Garden

lunch compliments of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Second place was the Fourth Grade class collecting

$232.11 and third place went to our Sixth Grade class col-

lecting $211.77. Congratulations to all students for raising

funds for such a worthy cause!
