And they placed over his head
the written charge against Him: This is Jesus,
the King of the Jews.
Matthew 27:37
Our liturgy, with its very dramatic and poignant readings, immerses into all of the raw emotions life can often bring. We hear of betrayal, fear, anger, disappointment, confusion, suffering, and even death. The veil of injustice is pulled over the life of the innocent Lamb and God, who walked with us, is called to face His death on the cross. Yet Jesus remains faithful and accepts the fate that is before Him. In all of this, He never wavers from the truth and continues to speak of mercy, forgiveness, and a God who loves. When life gets the best of us and brings us to our knees, can we remain faithful to the truth and accept what we cannot control?

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This weekend we begin Holy Week with Palm Sunday of
the Passion of the Lord. Jesus makes His triumphant
journey to Jerusalem for our salvation. Father Efren and I
hope you will join us in all of the prayer that will take place
in Holy Week. Also, continue to pray for Jacy, Casey,
Desiree and Bill who will come into the Church at the
Easter Vigil in Yatesboro.
On Holy Thursday, Bishop Malesic will celebrate the Chrism Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed
Sacrament Cathedral. Everyone is invited to this diocesan liturgy where the priests renew their
ordination vows and the bishop blesses the holy oils that will be used in the parishes for the next year.
If you have never been to a Chrism Mass, make plans to come this week.
The Lenten dinners are finished for 2017. Each week at both parishes, many people came together to
serve a great meal and help support these fundraisers. In Kittanning, special thanks to the Knights of
Columbus Council #1011, CD of A Court Patricia #998 and many parishioners who contributed to
a great year. In Yatesboro, I want to thank all of the parishioners that worked, supported and gave
much time in supporting the dinners. May God bless the work that we did together and everyone
who contributed in any way.
Make sure to have your Easter basket blessed this year. In Kittanning, following this, there will be
an Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the C.D. of A. and our youth ministry at 12:30 p.m. All children and
families are encouraged to attend and enjoy this event.

TENEBRAE SERVICE
PALM SUNDAY, APRIL 9 8:00 PM
St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church
The Tenebrae Service is a very beautiful and moving presentation that includes
readings, music, and drama.
Tenebrae is a Latin word meaning “darkness”, or “shadows”. The readings and songs help us to reflect upon the suffering, dying and death of Jesus. The most significant feature of this service is the gradual extinguishing of the lights.
We hope that you will begin Holy Week by joining us on Palm Sunday as we experience together only a small portion of Christ’s pain and suffering the day of his Crucifixion.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Patricia, #998, will be having our anniversary dinner on Tuesday, April 18, at 6:00 p.m. at the Latin American Club. Reservations should be made by Wednesday, April 12 to Carol Toy at 744 North Grant Ave. Kittanning, PA 16201 or 724-548-7842. See you there!
