2018 Bishop’s Annual Appeal

This weekend is the 2018 Bishop’s Annual Appeal Commitment Weekend at our parish and throughout the diocese. Last year, Bishop Strickland announced his vision to make the Diocese of Tyler a teaching diocese in the Constitution on Teaching the Catholic Faith. This vision involves teaching the Faith anew to every member of our diocese: priests, seminarians, deacons, lay people, and even fallen away Catholics and non-Catholics. The bishop’s Appeal provides for the many ministries that make this vision a reality. Prayerfully consider supporting the 2018 Bishop’s Annual Appeal with a pledge. Pledge cards can be found in your pews, and online gifts can be made at www.dioceseoftyler.org/appeal. Thank you for your continued generosity! 2nd Collection – Operation Rice Bowl

Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl provides funding for Catholic Relief Services’ food security projects which support agriculture, nutrition, education, and self-sufficiency in communities around the world. 75% is remitted to CRS for overseas projects and 25% may be retained in the diocese for local antipoverty programs.

SMM Food Pantry

The Food Pantry ministry is an important ministry at St. Mary Magdalene providing help to those in need in our area. The SMM Food Pantry operates every Wednesday morning and is one of the few pantries in the area that provides a meal in addition to providing food supplies. Each week, about twenty parishioners are involved in interviewing and registering qualified clients, preparing meals in the kitchen, and retrieving, organizing, packaging and distributing food supplies to our clients. The SMM Food Pantry purchases our food supplies from the East Texas Food Bank and typically serves 40-80 clients per week at a cost of $500-1000. The Food Pantry also coordinates with the ALMS committee to provide additional assistance to clients in the form of gas cards and store gift cards, as funds allow.

The Belles of St. Mary MagdaleneThe Belles is a Ministry at Saint Mary Magdalene Church open to ladies in the parish. We support Saint Mary Magdalene Church, various charities and provide a social fellowship for women in the parish. One of our most important projects is providing luncheons for the families of the deceased following the funeral. Social activities include holiday parties, speakers and game nights. Religion based activities include retreats, motivational speakers, and an annual communion breakfast.
