TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 30, 2020
DONATIONS NEEDED!!As St. Mary Magdalene students head back to school, many things will be different to maintain a safe environment. For safety reasons, the drinking fountains will be disabled and student supplies will not be shared. The school is asking for donations of gallon Ziplock bags and cash donations to purchase small bottles of drinking water. The Ziplock bags will be used to keep student supplies separated for individual use and the water will be kept on hand for any students who are unable to bring water with them for the day. Please place ziplock bags in the box located in the gathering space. Put your cash donation in an envelope marked “water” and place them in the offertory basket.
Thank you in advance for your help inmaking it a safe “Return to Learn!”
Dear God, with a new school year upon us, we pray for our...
STUDENTS, that You would ease their anxiety about going back to school amidst the pandemic. Ensure that every child has enough to eat, a supportive network of friends and family, and perseverance to face every challenge, with Your strength.
TEACHERS AND SCHOOL STAFF, that You would grant them supernatural peace and discernment. We pray for the safety of every staff person on every school campus.
PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS, we pray for a support system that they can turn to when the challenges of life are overwhelming.

MARY MAGDALENE RECTORY KITCHEN FUNDSt. Mary Magdalene Church rectory was built in 1959. The oven and cooktops served it well but after 61 years it is time for an update. Father Patrick Toner came out of retirement to serve us, St. Aloysius and St. Agnes for the past few years. I thought it would be nice to update the kitchen as it is needed and it would be nice for him and the other priests who serve us. Father Toner loves to cook and I heard he is a fabulous baker. We plan on buying a new oven/microwave combo and a cooktop for the island, any excess donation money will be used to update the wallpaper and cabinets. Please prayerfully consider a donation and nothing is too small. We hope to have it completed by the holidays...prime baking time. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity!!
A Go Fund Me page has been set up titled St. Mary Magdalene Kitchen Fund or checks can be made out to St. Mary Magdalene Church Kitchen Fund.

ATTENTION, MENKapaun’s Men Virtue Series:“He was the greatest example of manhood that I’ve ever seen in my life.” Servant of God Father Emil Kapaun was a heroic Catholic priest and Army chaplain who spent his life in service to his fellow men on the battlefields and in the prison camps of Korea. In the dire conditions of the Communist prison camp, he inspired men to band together and keep fighting, and his story has been inspiring men ever since.

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 30, 2020
TOWARD A NEW NORMAL
Today’s quarantine restrictions complement centuries of Christian response to epidemics.
The church has always urged the faithful to take every sensible precaution in defense of human life, while continuing to serve God and neighbor.
When the plague came to Wittenberg in 1527, other pastors asked Martin Luther if it was proper for a Christian to flee. His response is worth reading today:
If the people in a city were to show themselves bold in their faith when a neighbor’s need so demands, and cautious when no emergency exists, and if everyone would help ward off contagion as best he can, then the death toll would indeed be moderate. But if some are too panicky and desert their neighbors in their plight, and if some are so foolish as not to take precautions but aggravate the contagion, then the devil has a heyday and many will die.
Of course it was wrong to abandon the sick and dying, and Luther himself remained in town to help. Yet he insisted that refusing to make use of “intelligence and medicine” was “not trusting God but tempting him.”
St. Aloysius contracted the Plague while caring for the sick. St. Aloysius, Pray for Us.
ADORATION OFTHE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
Churches should be kept open during the hours when they normally would have been before the pandemic. This will allow people to adore Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament in the presence of the tabernacle. Returning Holy Hours with exposition back in the parish schedule should be done where it is possible to maintain social distancing. Parishioners should be encouraged to bring and use their own hand sanitizer. Pew sanitizing should still be done after weekend Masses as has been the policy. Since Perpetual Adoration requires at least one person to be present at all times, it might not be possible to return to this devotion at this time of the reopening. Furthermore, many adorers who make Perpetual Adoration possible in parishes are in that high risk category. Therefore, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle or during specific times of exposition should be the focus during this part of the return.
Monday Morning, 8:15 a.m. at SMM
Monday: Morning with Mary and Her Son
Monday, 2:00 at St. Als Holy Hour for Dying will include exposition
Saturday, 9:00 a.m. Adoration and Benediction
