FROM THE RECTOR

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As many of you might have heard, our Bishop has decreed the suspension of the celebration of public Masses until April 8. You can read his letter at https://austindiocese.org/ describing in more detail his directives for our ministry and operations over the next several weeks.

A few particular points for the Cathedral: The Cathedral will remain open for prayer from 6:30am-5:00pm.

We plan to keep Confessions from 11:00am-Noon, Mon.-Sat. We are working on setting up live streaming of Mass for this com-

ing Sunday, which will also be recorded and available online. We will maintain normal office hours of 8:30am-5:00pm. Most

ministries and meetings are cancelled; please check with our office or the ministry leader to verify.

We will continue to update our website and social media with the latest information.

I know that this is a difficult time that causes much anxiety but I have confidence that it will bring out the best in us so the world may know through our love that only Christ can truly heal. It is in times like these that we can more clearly see our need for faith and the sacraments. Thank you for your patience and loving witness. Your Servant in Christ, Fr. Daniel Liu ________________________________________________________

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:

Six Characteristics of an Everyday Stewardship for Lent – Gracious Vacations can be great times for refueling the body and renewing bonds within a family and between friends. No matter how good the vacation was, it is almost always good to get home when it is over. Sleeping in our own bed, taking a shower in our own bathroom, and resting on our own couch are some of the aspects of home we can miss while on the road. That’s why encountering truly gracious and hospitable people while we are away is so important. These people are not family, but they sure can provide for us a glimpse of home. They can be waiters at a restaurant, desk hosts at a hotel, or even Uber drivers. They enrich our lives if for only a moment, yet that moment can make all the difference.

When disciples of Jesus Christ act in a gracious manner to all those they meet, they provide a glimpse of home. This home is not in a house in a particular location, but it is a home prepared for all of us for eternity. No matter how comfortable we may be in our earthly homes, it truly pales in comparison to eternity with God. In that heavenly home, there is no darkness, only light. There are no tears, only joy. There is no hate, only love.

We are ambassadors for heaven by how we offer ourselves to others. Our stewardship of hospitality allows others to see a glimpse of what God promises to us. Unless we truly step up and act in a gracious manner, will those we encounter ever know the Truth? I hate it when I am on the road and fail to meet people full of joy and welcome. At least I can look forward to coming home. What do those along the way look forward to in the next life that you can’t show them a glimpse of in this one? -Tracy Earl Welliver ©LPi

Missionary works of Cross Catholic Outreach: Fr. Antony Savarimuthu, our resident priest, will be speaking on behalf of Cross Catholic Outreach and its ministry around the world the weekend of March 28-29. Cross Catholic Outreach is a Catholic organization whose mission is to mobilize the global Church to transform the poor and their communities materially and spiritually for the glory of Jesus Christ. It reach-es out to the poorest of the poor countries in Asia, Central America, South America, and, more specifically, Caribbean countries such as Haiti.

There are excellent and committed bishops from the U. S. as board members. More than 100 bishops from the U. S. have written a letter endorsing Cross Catholic Outreach, including our Bishop Joe Vásquez. Cross Catholic Outreach works in collaboration with the Dicastery* for Promoting Integral Human Development’s Section for Service of Charity and it received pontifical approval from the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, the Holy Father’s outreach to the developing world. For more information, visit: www.crosscatholic.org.

Brochures will be distributed during the weekend of March 28-29, at all Masses; Fr. Antony will preach at all the Masses and explain in depth about Cross Catholic. There will be no second collection. It is up to the generosity of parishioners to support this valuable ministry, extending your love towards the poor around the world during this time of Lent. Feel free to reach Fr. Antony by his phone: 551-697-9564, or email [email protected] for further details.

* Dicastery: one of the official congregations of the Holy See through which the Pope conducts the regular administration of the Universal Church.

Seeing is much more than just a function of our eyes. We can look at something with clear vision but not really see it. Often what we think we see is colored by our presuppositions, prejudices, assumptions, and needs. We judge things by appearance, but God looks into the heart. God’s sight has a much wider range and far greater depth. Receiving things or people just based on appearance can lead us to erroneous and hurtful judgments. We think we are seeing clearly, but we are not. Allowing God to restore our sight so that we can truly see is a worthy goal for our Lenten journey. Look within and look without. What do you see? Allow God to complete the picture for you. Ask Him to give you the insight to look into someone’s heart. Don’t draw hasty conclusions or presume you know the truth. Be open and humble enough so that you can receive the sight that only God can give. ©LPi

©LPi

RESPECT LIFE

VOCATIONS DISCERNMENT

Spiritual Adoption I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly… John 10:10 Initiated in 1991, this program provides an opportunity for children, teens, adults and senior citizens to prayerfully intercede on behalf of moms and unborn babies threatened by abortion. Participants spiritually adopt a baby at risk of abortion by pledging to pray daily for nine months.

Beginning March 25, we ask you to pray daily for your spir itual adopted baby and the baby’s parents. This child of yours is known to God and in the world to come it is hoped that you will meet this child whose life was saved by your prayers.
