FROM THE DEACON’S DESK
The Liturgical Year – The EASTER
SEASON
After Lent and the Easter Triduum, the
third season to interrupt Ordinary Time is the
Easter season itself. Beginning on Easter
Sunday and running to Pentecost Sunday, a
period of 50 days (inclusive), the Easter
season is second only to Ordinary Time in
length. Easter is one of the greatest feasts in
the Christian calendar, for "if Christ is not
risen, our faith is in vain." The Resurrection of
Christ culminates in His Ascension into Heaven
and the descent of the Holy Spirit on
Pentecost, which inaugurates the mission of
the Church to spread the Good News of
salvation to all the world.

PRAYER DURING DIFFICULT TIMES
God of love and mercy, assist us in this time of trouble and anxiety during the Covid-19 pandemic. Ease our burdens. Strengthen our faith. Increase our trust and confidence in Your compassionate care.
Give us the courage we need, dear Lord, to face the difficulties before us, knowing that with Your help, miracles happen and lives are restored.
We pray for a share in Your healing graces, and ask that You surround us with Your comforting goodness, for health in mind and body, and for a heart filled with hope and peace. Amen.
April 1, 2020
Dear Parishioners:
As the number of known coronavirus cases and deaths continue to increase, President
Trump has extended the social distance and “Stay at Home” orders through April 30, 2020. It is
anticipated that our governor will do the same this weekend.
Considering the rapidly evolving situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Decree of the
Congregation for Divine Worship (03/25/2020) states that “The date of Easter cannot be
transferred. In the countries which have been struck by the disease and where restrictions around
the assembly and movement of people have been imposed, bishops and priests may celebrate the
rites of Holy Week & Easter without the presence of the people.”
As a direct result of that Order and Decree, Archbishop Aymond has stated to the Clergy
in his letter (03/30/2020) that the Easter Triduum may be celebrated in the church parishes with a
very small number of people so as not to spread the virus. The Liturgies are not open to the
public.
After consulting with our Deacons and the Liturgy Committee, for the safety of our
parishioners, we decided that St. Martha and Infant Jesus churches will remain closed for Palm
Sunday, all Holy Week services and Easter Sunday masses until further notice.
Please be reminded that Holy Week services and Easter Masses will be broadcast live from
St. Louis Cathedral on WLAE-TV and livestreamed at TheDailyMass.com. Check the guides for
times. These services can also be found on Catholic TV and EWTN.
We live in fear and uncertainty and are experiencing a sense of loss not being able to attend
our regular Sunday masses together and to receive Jesus in Holy Communion. The therapy, I
believe, for the anguish of the present moment, is to entrust ourselves to God’s hand. We are in
His hands and no one can tear us away from Him. As Jesus said to his apostles and us, “Peace be
with you, I am with you always”.
The social distance and Stay at Home orders do not mean to isolate ourselves completely
from others. So, I encourage you to reach out to one another, to your family members and friends,
by calling or texting them in this challenging time. Let them know that though we are not
physically together, we care and are willing to do anything we can if they are in need of us.
Rest assured that you and your loved ones are in my prayers and remembrance at my daily
private Mass. God is faithful in this way….. We will experience HEALING and PEACE. We
must trust in God’s love and wait patiently, which isn’t easy at all.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Lich
