Made For Greatness

This past Saturday the 8th grade students attended the “Made

For Greatness” confirmation rally at Bishop Dwenger High

School. The event brought together nearly 800 students from

around the Diocese. They listened to witness talks on courage

and working through adversity. It was a nice lesson on the

gifts of the Holy Spirit. The talk I enjoyed most was the

homily from Fr. Andrew Budzinski, the current vocation

director for the Diocese and former leprechaun for the

Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He noted, that when he wore

the green jacket at Notre Dame he was immediately identified.

The jacket was a visible sign. Some loved him and others

hated him, but they knew who he was and what he

represented. Likewise, at confirmation, we receive the gift of

the Holy Spirit and are sealed with the Sacred Chrism, the

sign of our Confirmation. Not a visible sign. Therefore, as

Christians, we become the visible sign when we show the love

of Christ to all we encounter. They will know we are

Christians by our Love. What a great message for the

students. The day ended very fittingly with Eucharistic

Adoration and Benediction.

Parish Mission Founded on Mercy

I would like to invite all of our school families to attend the

parish mission. The dates are October 23rd, 24th, and 25th from

7-8 PM. Each evening there will be a talk on Mercy from the

perspective of 3 great Saints of the Church. There will be a

children’s program for K-5 and a reception to follow each

evening. This is a wonderful opportunity to join with other

families to grow in faith and enjoy some fellowship. I do hope

you will attend. We will not be giving homework at school on

the days of the mission to help free up time to attend. Please

see the flyer at the end of the newsletter for more details.

Caution at Drop off and Pick up.

I would like to remind parents that if you pick up your

children on Pemberton that they only enter the car or van by a

door at the curb side. We do not want students walking around

the car to get in a street side door. If you pull up on the west

side of Pemberton, students must cross at the corner and then

walk up to your car. We cannot allow kids to walk into the

street. We know that things get hectic at this time and that is

all the more reason that we must be careful. We ask that you

follow these safety rules. Thank you for your patience and

cooperation.

Light of Learning (last call)

Last newsletter we printed forms to submit a nominee for the

Light of Learning teacher award. Ballots were due to the main

office by Oct. 14th. We are extending that deadline a few days.

If you would like to nominate a teacher, please submit the

attached ballot to the school office by Tuesday October 18.

STUDENT INSURANCE

A portion of each student’s course fees is for

student/athlete insurance coverage. Students have coverage

for injuries and accidents that happen during the school day

at St. Jude School, or while participating in extracurricular

school-sponsored activities. Eligible covered expenses will

be paid which are in excess of other valid and collectible

insurance. Claims should be submitted to the parents’

insurance first.

If an injury occurs, seek medical care through

your usual providers, then contact the business manager

who will obtain information required to complete the

school’s portion of the claim form. The claim form will be

sent to the parents, who must complete their portion. The

parents mail the completed form, along with an

Explanation of Benefits from their insurance and any

corresponding itemized bills, to the plan administrators’

address shown on the form. All correspondence after this

point should be between the plan administrator and the

parents. Completed claim forms must be submitted within

90 days of the date of the injury.

PARENT TEACHER

CONFERENCES

Parent/Teacher conferences will be

held on Thursday, October 27th,

2016. There will be a 1:45

dismissal with conference times

scheduled from 2:15-7:15 p.m. on the

same day. There will be NO

SCHOOL on Friday, October 28th.

Again this year the 7th and 8th grade

teachers will be available in the

school auditorium for Arena

Conferences with no scheduled

appointments. Teachers will be

seated at different tables with a

line of chairs arranged for parents

waiting to meet that teacher. This

should allow parents to visit more of

the 7th and 8th grade teachers.

Parents will want to focus on meeting

teachers in whose classes their child

might be having a concern rather

than just going to the homeroom

teacher who only has the student

for one subject.

Students are encouraged to come to

the conference with the

parents/guardian unless otherwise

stated by the teacher.

BACKGROUND CHECKS REQUIRED FOR

PARENTS DRIVING / VOLUNTEERING

Anyone wanting to help drive on field trips or help in

classrooms that have not already filled out their background

check paperwork need to do this at least 2 weeks prior to

the scheduled field trip and/or classroom visit. Interested

drivers/volunteers need to come to the Parish office to

obtain the paperwork needed. The entire process can take

weeks for approval. This is because of the background

check and because of the list of people that are in process

already. Even if you think that someday you will drive for a

field trip, please do not wait until the day before.

Classrooms need drivers, so please get a Volunteer

Application from the Parish Center or School office.

Also, if you plan to drive on a field trip, the office needs a

current copy of your driver’s license and insurance

information showing your coverage. This part has to be

redone every year due constant and varying expiration

dates.

DIOCESAN MASS AT THE COLISEUM

On Thursday, October 27th students in Grade 4, 7 & 8 will

travel by bus to the Coliseum and participate in the

10:30am Diocesan School Mass. All 4th grade students will

be dressed as Saints.

fall sports! Group photos or individual photos accepted.

20th. Preschool (3 Year-Olds) will have their picture taken

on this day also. For those doing “Retakes” please make

sure your child brings their original picture packet with a

note on it stating what you don’t like about the picture.

Also, PLEASE KEEP YOU CLASS PICTURE!

MESSAGES AND USE OF TELEPHONE

Since the start of the school year, we have been very

lenient on allowing students to call home for non-

emergency issues. Now that we are further into the

year, we feel that reinforcing the rule of using the office

phone for emergencies only will help limit disruptions

in the classroom. Below is our policy that is stated in

the Parent/Student handbook:

Students are permitted to use the school telephone

only in emergencies. The following are NOT

emergencies: missing homework, missing gym

clothes, missing lunch, forgotten instrument, or to visit a friend after school.

SCRIP EXPRESS Volume17 Issue 4 October 15, 2016 The “hustle and bustle” of the Holiday Season will quickly be upon us. In addition to providing new information, we hope that this newsletter will answer questions you may have as you plan your Holiday SCRIP shopping. We are still working on our annual “Christmas Merchant List” and will have it ready for distribution in November. We have been busy contacting local merchants and our national SCRIP broker in an effort to bring you additional places to use SCRIP for all your Christmas gift giving, entertaining, and holiday needs. We are still waiting to hear back from a few local merchants in regards to participating in the SCRIP program. Keep in mind that you can always Special Order/Prepay from our national SCRIP broker. Beginning Saturday, November 26th, we will be selling SCRIP every weekend up through Christmas. You will be able to purchase SCRIP on Tuesdays via Kidmail and in the Parish Center on Wednesday evenings (5:30-6:30pm) and Thursday mornings (7.30-9.30am). You may also drop off your completed order form, with payment, at the Parish Office. Your filled order will be available for “express pick-up” at the next scheduled SCRIP sale. To help us reduce mistakes, please take the time to double check your order form before sending it in. It may be helpful to “jot down” what you ordered via Kidmail, or if possible, make a copy of your order form. If you feel a mistake has been made or if you are unsure of what you ordered, please contact a SCRIP Coordinator as soon as possible. Also, check with your responsible child before leaving carline pick-up (if possible) regarding your Kidmail SCRIP. Classrooms get hectic at the end of the school day (especially in the Junior High) and the teacher may have forgotten to return it or the class may have had a substitute teacher that day. If for whatever reason your responsible child didn’t get in the car with your Kidmail SCRIP, go back into school and ask the teacher about it, if possible. We strongly suggest that you “plan ahead” when purchasing your SCRIP for the holidays as some vendors need 2-3 working days notice while others only allow us to order once a week. In addition, during the busy holiday season, our national broker will begin to extend their delivery guarantee by a few days. Keep this in mind when placing a Special Order/Prepay. Contact us if you are concerned about your order arriving by the date needed.

Page 8: Saint Jude Catholic School - stjudefw.org · Saint Jude Catholic School ... Our vision for St. Jude Catholic -filled ... to the plan administrators’

Please give us a “heads up” if you need a large quantity of SCRIP from any one vendor. Even though SCRIP is “in stock” from the merchants listed on the order form, we may not have the amount you desire. Generally, any request for over $300 from a specific vendor (excluding Meijer, Kolh’s & WalMart) is required to be ordered via the Special Order/Prepay Program.
